Job Description Reports to: VP of Talent and People Management Location: Hybrid, based in Garden City, NY with travel to work locations Status: Full-Time, Exempt Position Summary The Assistant Director of Talent and People Management plays a key role in building and sustaining a high-performing, mission-aligned workforce. This position supports all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, performance management, employee engagement, compliance, and organizational development. The Assistant Director serves as a thought partner to senior leadership and a trusted resource to managers and staff across the organization. This role requires demonstrated experience in guiding projects from initial planning through to successful completion. Key Responsibilities Talent Management & Development • Oversee the full recruitment lifecycle, ensuring equitable and effective hiring practices across all levels of the organization., • Partner with senior management and vocational services to forecast staffing needs and develop workforce plans aligned with organizational goals., • Support performance management initiatives, including 360 feedback cycles, professional development planning., • Lead initiatives to strengthen employee engagement, recognition, and retention., • Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility throughout all HR processes and communications., • Coordinate employee recognition programs, milestone awards, and organizational events (e.g., NDEAM, service awards, wellness initiatives)., • Oversee core HR functions including onboarding, benefits administration, compensation updates, and policy implementation., • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and EEOC requirements., • Partner with payroll and finance to ensure accurate processing of benefits, leave, and employment changes., • Responsible for compiling and preparing data for filings including 5500s, EEO-1, VETS4212 and other reports as required., • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of employee data in HCM system by performing regular audits, • Provide support and training to employees and managers on using HCM system effectively, troubleshooting issues., • Supervise HR staff and provide coaching and guidance to ensure quality service delivery and professional growth., • Serve as a resource for managers on employee relations, performance improvement, and team development., • Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and Vocational Services and Development & Engagement to align HR initiatives with organizational strategy., • Contribute to continuous improvement of HR systems, processes, and tools to enhance efficiency and employee experience., • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field (Master’s preferred)., • 7+ years of progressively responsible HR experience, including supervisory or team leadership roles., • Commitment to our mission of creating inclusive employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities., • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and nonprofit compliance standards., • Demonstrated experience in employee relations, performance management, and talent development., • Ability to translate organizational goals and objectives into strategic HR project plans, ensuring all initiatives directly support business goals, • Proven experience managing and optimizing HCM/HRMS platforms, • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills., • Ability to travel to work locations in NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Albany and Essex (NJ) counties as needed., • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred. Responsibilities: • Interview, Hire, and Onboard staffing replacements., • Schedule and forecast interview appointments depending on staffing needs., • Execute the hiring and application process according to company practices and legal compliance., • Handle/Coordinate New Hire Orientation and Onboarding by reviewing company guidelines, work expectations, rules, and practices., • Processes background checks in compliance of company practices and client specific requirements., • Enrolls employees in the time and attendance system (CTR) and processes activity changes as necessary., • Monitors union card submissions and union dues., • Interacts with payroll team in an effective and positive manner to process and resolve payroll related issues according to CBS regulations and legal compliance., • Elevates labor or client concerns to the HR Supervisor / HR Management team as necessary., • Assist in operating the main operations department reception line in a professional and courteous manner when necessary. Qualifications and Competencies: • High School Degree minimum. College Degree in business or HR highly desired., • 3 Years of prior administrative experience with a focus on HR/ Staffing preferred., • Spanish communication skills is a must., • Solid consultation and interviewing skills, strong oral and written communication skills are required., • Ability to work in a highly fast paced environment and operate multiple phone lines., • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Suite systems., • Strong attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy., • Excellent leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise positively with all levels of management and field teams., • Self-starter able to work with a high degree of urgency and under pressure., • Ability to work successfully in a team environment while able to work well independently., • Ability to prioritize work and elevate concerns appropriately., • Basic understanding of all HR guidelines and policies, organizational development, compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, and operations is preferred.
