Job DescriptionBergen Community College is accepting applications for adjunct positions in the division of Humanities for Spring 2026. Below are the disciplines we are currently hiring for and the requirements for each. Communications Department: In the interest of developing responsible communities and individuals, the department of communication at Bergen Community College, strives to teach a diverse population of students the theories, principles, and practices of effective and ethical communication in a range of personal, public, visual and mediated contexts. The Department also seeks to prepare interested students for advanced undergraduate and graduate studies in communication. The option in communication is appropriate for students focusing on many areas of study as well as professional careers. Students interested in careers in education, business, marketing, public relations, law, social work, criminal justice, and political science choose a concentration in communication. This option provides a solid foundation to a liberal arts education. Courses and Requirements: Communication Required: Master’s degree in Speech/Interpersonal Communication and at least one year college teaching experience. Available courses are COM 100 Speech Communication and COM 102 Public Speaking. English Department: Courses and Requirements: English Basic Skills Required: Master’s degree in English, English Education, Reading or related field; at least one year experience teaching developmental English to diverse populations, preferably at a community college. English Composition & Literature Required: Master’s degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, Literature, or related field; at least one year experience teaching college-level English composition to diverse populations, preferably in a community college. English as a Second Language (ESL) Required: Master’s degree in ESL, Linguistics, English Education, Reading or related field; at least one year experience teaching ESL to diverse populations, preferably at a community college. Philosophy and Religion: The philosophy program introduces students to the basic principles and techniques of logical thinking and argumentation, to the history of philosophical thought, to the basic problems of philosophy (What is real? What can be known? What is really worthwhile?), and to a set of methods by which contemporary moral, social, and political problems may be clearly understood and perhaps resolved. The religious studies program introduces students to the basic problems and methods of theology; to the sacred literatures of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and other religious traditions; and to the history, basic beliefs, and characteristic practices of the major religions of the world. Courses and Requirements: Philosophy and Religion Required: Master’s degree in Philosophy; experience teaching college-level philosophy to diverse populations. Preferred: Community college teaching experience; ability to teach formal and informal logic. Job Description Position Overview: The Senior Transitional Educator provides a short-term/transitional education for the US Program youth (Unaccompanied Children) residing on the campus of The Children’s Village at Dobbs Ferry, New York while awaiting placement or re-unification with a sponsor. The US Program youth will receive six (6) hours of education each day, M-F, as part of the program. Position Qualifications: Must be Bilingual/Spanish and English. State Certification, Secondary School 7-12. Recent teaching experience in 7-12 setting. Provide last observation report and rating. Experience working with ENL (English as a New Language) students. Ability to teach 7-12 grade students in a multi-grade, culturally diverse and varying academic levels. Must be proficient in the use of technology (Smartboard, computer ability to use EXCEL and other computer programs to upload/download reports). Ability to work in a non-traditional educational setting. Ability to plan and organize in an efficient manner and meet deadlines for submitting student reports. Minimum of bachelor’s degree; certification by the relevant governing authority, Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate accrediting body and additional training to meet the special needs of unaccompanied children. At least one year of classroom or small-group teaching experience (test-prep preferred). Teach SAT®/ACT® Reading, Writing & Language classes. Expert command of SAT Writing & Language, ACT English, and rhetorical analysis.
