As a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Service Technician at Kelso Industries, you will be working in our service division, as an employee of Kelso Building Services. About This Role We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Service Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in HVAC controls, system integration, and energy management, with hands-on experience troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining BAS systems. This role is critical to ensuring the optimal performance of our customers' building systems through responsive service, reliable maintenance, and advanced technical expertise. Key Responsibilities: • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on BAS and HVAC control systems., • Modify, upgrade, and commission control programs in Distech and Tridium Niagara environments., • Conduct system performance analysis and identify opportunities for optimization and energy savings., • Provide technical support to clients and assist in resolving complex control and network communication issues., • Calibrate and configure controllers, sensors, and field devices for optimal operation., • Work closely with project teams to ensure seamless transition from installation to service., • Maintain detailed service logs, documentation, and system backups., • Support remote monitoring, diagnostics, and system analytics platforms., • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency service requests., • Minimum 5 years of experience in Building Automation, HVAC controls, or a related field., • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks communication protocols., • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings., • Knowledge of IP-based networks, control system architecture, and field integration., • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills., • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service orientation., • Valid driver's license and clean driving record., • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Preferred Qualifications: • Niagara N4 Certification or Distech Controls Certification., • Experience with lighting control systems, energy dashboards, or IoT integrations., • Basic programming or scripting ability (e.g., Restful APIs, GFX, BQL, PX, or GCL,)., • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training. Key Responsibilities • Leading service projects and mentoring junior technicians., • Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC/R equipment (walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases, RTUs, etc.)., • Performing and managing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting across customer sites., • Communicating clearly with customers and team members to ensure quality service delivery., • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, building codes, and environmental regulations., • 3+ years of commercial HVAC/R experience (refrigeration strongly preferred)., • Candidates with 5+ years of experience may be considered for the Lead Service Tech position, • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills., • Proficiency with schematics, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic tools., • EPA Universal Certification required for handling refrigerants (Type II or Universal)., • Valid driver's license and clean driving record., • Physical stamina to lift heavy equipment and work in various indoor/outdoor conditions., • Experience in supermarket refrigeration or similar high-volume retail settings., • Ability to train, mentor, and guide technicians in the field., • Customer-first mindset with a drive for continuous improvement. The specialist will troubleshoot hardware and software issues, assist with system setups, escalate complex problems as needed, and document all support activities in the ticketing system.
