Job DescriptionJob Title: Skilled Labor (Construction) – Carpenter Job Description This role focuses on commercial and residential remodel carpentry within a wide range of commercial projects, typically valued between $3–10 million. You will construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures for projects such as schools, municipal buildings, mixed-use commercial spaces, office spaces, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and commercial upfits. You will contribute to project layout, structural framing, and finish work while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and craftsmanship. Responsibilities • Assist in project layout to ensure accurate placement of structures and fixtures., • Measure, cut, and install metal framing, drywall, exterior metal framing, exterior sheathing, and other materials using hand and power tools., • Install structures and fixtures including drywall, framing, doors, windows, frames, flooring, and trim., • Inspect and replace damaged framework, structures, and fixtures to maintain structural integrity and quality., • Perform finish carpentry tasks, including detailed trim work and punch list completion., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements, where applicable., • Support job site layout activities and assist in assigning daily tasks to crew members when needed., • Collaborate with other construction professionals to complete projects on time and within budget., • Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and company policies., • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and use them safely., • Contribute to drywall construction and finishing, including taping, mudding, and final preparation for paint or finishes., • Participate in crew management activities such as coordinating tasks and supporting team productivity., • Complete punch lists to ensure all project details meet quality and client expectations.Essential Skills, • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial construction or residential remodel construction as a carpenter., • Proven experience as a carpenter on commercial construction projects., • Ability to assist in project layout and job site layout., • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure., • Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and installing metal framing, drywall, exterior framing, exterior sheathing, and related materials., • Experience building and remodeling commercial interiors., • Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and methods, including rough and finish carpentry., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Proficiency in using basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively., • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills., • Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in a construction environment., • Good communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with other construction professionals., • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation., • Current OSHA 10 certification.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with commercial construction, retail construction, and mixed-use commercial projects., • Background in drywall construction and drywall finishing, including taping and patching., • Experience with project layout, job site layout, and assigning daily tasks to crew members., • Exposure to crew management and coordinating work among team members., • Ability to complete punch lists and deliver high-quality finish work., • Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications is considered a strong asset., • Capability to demonstrate journeyworker-level carpentry experience, supported by references, is advantageous for higher pay consideration.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position operates in a fully commercial construction environment, with projects that include commercial offices, schools, state office buildings, and mixed-use commercial spaces. Work is performed on active job sites using standard construction tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and materials such as metal framing, drywall, and exterior sheathing. The typical schedule runs Monday through Friday starting at 7:00 a.m., with overtime commonly worked during the week and occasionally on Saturdays. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety standards and OSHA guidelines, as well as the ability to work both indoors and outdoors depending on project phase and site conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Schenectady, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $39.00/hr.
