Position Summary: The Director of Information Technology provides district‑wide leadership for all technology systems, shaping long‑term strategy while ensuring day‑to‑day reliability across instructional and operational environments. As a senior leader, this role guides technology teams, steers major infrastructure and modernization efforts, and safeguards the district’s data through strong governance and privacy practices. The Director manages a multimillion‑dollar technology budget, aligning investments with organizational priorities and overseeing the full lifecycle of devices, networks, and cloud services. With an eye toward innovation, the role also explores emerging tools including AI, identity management, and evolving digital platforms to strengthen security, enhance learning, and support the district’s mission. Role Overview: A member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director provides the strategic vision for all district technology, manages the departmental budget, and ensures compliance with state and federal data privacy laws. Strategic Leadership: Leads comprehensive IT strategy and manages diverse technical teams to support the district's educational mission. Data Privacy Officer (DPO): Serves as the designated DPO, ensuring strict alignment with NY State ED Law 2-D and FERPA. Fiscal Management: Oversees an annual IT budget of $4 million, including procurement and lifecycle management. Infrastructure Oversight: Directs large-scale projects such as 1:1 Chromebook deployments, network modernization, and secure cloud migrations for disaster recovery. Innovation & AI: Develops systems for Generative AI and identity management to enhance instructional technology. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance • Develop and execute a multi-year technology roadmap aligned with instructional, operational, and community priorities., • Serve as the District’s primary technology advisor to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, and Board of Education., • Lead long-range infrastructure planning, modernization initiatives, and lifecycle management strategies., • Evaluate emerging technologies, including generative AI and identity governance systems, for responsible adoption.Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Oversight, • Serve as the District’s Data Privacy Officer., • Ensure compliance with NYS Education Law 2-D, FERPA, and applicable state and federal regulations., • Establish and maintain cybersecurity governance frameworks, policies, and incident response procedures., • Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity planning, testing, and documentation., • Coordinate cybersecurity risk assessments and remediation planning.Infrastructure & Operations Management, • Oversee districtwide IT infrastructure including:, • Network core, firewalls, wireless systems, • Server and virtualization environments, • Identity and access management, • Google Workspace and enterprise applications, • Telephony and surveillance systems, • Direct and prioritize large-scale projects such as 1:1 device deployments, network upgrades, and cloud migrations., • Ensure service delivery standards are maintained across all IT support tiers., • Maintain 24/7 escalation readiness for critical incidents.Team Leadership & Organizational Development, • Supervise and mentor Network Administration and Help Desk personnel., • Provide clear reporting structure and accountability standards., • Foster a culture of customer service, professionalism, and collaboration., • Coordinate with district-employed IT staff and regional BOCES resources., • Conduct performance evaluations and establish measurable KPIs.Budget & Vendor Management, • Develop and manage the annual IT budget in alignment with District priorities., • Lead procurement strategy and vendor negotiations., • Evaluate contracts and ensure cost efficiency and service value., • Present budget recommendations and updates to District leadership.Instructional Technology Alignment, • Partner with instructional leadership to ensure technology enhances student learning., • Support effective integration of classroom technology tools., • Provide guidance on equitable device access and digital learning initiatives.Required Qualifications, • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred)., • 7–10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience., • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise network and cloud infrastructure., • Experience in cybersecurity governance and regulatory compliance., • Proven ability to manage multi-site environments and large user bases., • Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for executive and board-level presentations.Preferred Qualifications, • Experience in K–12 or public sector IT leadership., • Familiarity with NYS Education Law 2-D compliance requirements., • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCNP, Microsoft Azure, or equivalent., • Experience overseeing large-scale Chromebook or device deployment environments.
