Grid Capacity Manager – Job Description Role Summary As a key member of the Grid team, the Grid Capacity Manager will be responsible for identifying, analysing, and mitigating congestion risks on transmission and distribution networks for both current and future energy projects. This role involves conducting complex power flow and contingency studies, evaluating congestion management strategies, supporting grid connection activities, and assessing available grid capacity to highlight limitations and uncover new development opportunities. The successful candidate will contribute to developing standardized analytical procedures, automate workflows to improve efficiency and reduce errors, and help maintain a high standard of technical quality across the department. A proactive mindset, technical curiosity, and strong process improvement skills are essential. Key Responsibilities • Act as a primary interface between project teams and power system engineers to assess grid capacity and provide feasibility assessments for optimal connection points., • Proactively identify and evaluate new grid connection opportunities or enhancements, based on a deep understanding of local system constraints and capacity., • Collaborate across teams to provide context on the electricity system—including market dynamics, ancillary services, capacity, stability, and congestion—within each country of operation., • Lead the creation and coordination of technical reports with actionable recommendations based on analysis of both historical and forecasted congestion data., • Provide expert support to project developers on grid access strategies, including congestion risk mitigation and the integration of ancillary services, storage, and flexibility solutions., • Develop and maintain accurate system models to support robust congestion assessment and forecasting., • Review and validate static and dynamic grid studies to identify system constraints and bottlenecks., • Offer strategic input on contingency analyses, stability assessments, and mitigation plans for congested grid scenarios., • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders providing information on grid congestion, including local manufacturers of grid support technologies (e.g. grid-forming inverters, synchronous condensers)., • Coordinate automation of recurring analytical tasks using programming (e.g. Python), and define standardized templates for technical studies., • Review and approve technical deliverables, propose actionable solutions, and communicate findings effectively to internal and external stakeholders., • Represent the company in industry groups and public consultations to influence network development, capacity assessments, and operational guidelines., • Engage regularly with network operators to discuss grid capacity, flexibility needs, and congestion challenges (online and in-person)., • Manage relationships with transmission and distribution operators in relation to congestion and grid stability topics., • Support day-to-day department operations, collaborating across teams to align strategic initiatives., • Identify process gaps and lead continuous improvement efforts, including the roll-out of new tools, systems, and working practices. Candidate Profile Knowledge & Skills • Strong expertise in power system analysis, grid congestion, network planning, and market operations., • Proficiency with industry-standard simulation tools (e.g. PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSSE, PowerWorld, ANAREDE, etc.) for static and dynamic studies (RMS and EMT)., • Advanced skills in data analysis and programming (preferably Python, DPL, Power BI)., • Deep understanding of congestion management techniques and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. ENTSO-E operations)., • Solid knowledge of network stability assessment, connection processes, and grid code requirements., • Degree in Electrical Engineering (with a focus on power systems) or a related technical discipline., • Minimum of 10 years in power systems engineering, grid operations, or energy market analytics., • Experience working directly with European grid operators., • Background in grid planning, compliance, or congestion analysis across at least six different countries., • Hands-on experience with simulation tools and conducting congestion/stability studies., • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills., • Highly organised, analytical, and detail-oriented., • Fluent in English and at least one additional European language., • Strong computing and technical reporting skills., • Collaborative team player with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset., • Capable of working independently and managing multiple internal/external relationships.
