Game Path is working with a small independent console game development studio based in the heart of Bordeaux’s vibrant tech and creative scene. We are actively seeking a VFX Artist (Mid-Senior level) to join their growing team on a newly developed and original Platformer title. The role is permanent and Hybrid (4 days a week on site) - All applicants must be prepared to work on this basis and be situated within a commutable distance to Bordeaux. The Role This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced VFX Artist who is passionate about creating visually striking, technically robust effects that enhance gameplay and support a stylised art direction. You will work closely with art, design, animation, and engineering teams to help shape the look and feel of the project, while ensuring effects perform efficiently across PC and high-end console platforms. You will be responsible for producing a wide range of real-time visual effects, integrating them into gameplay, and contributing to the technical and creative development of the project’s VFX pipeline. This is a key role within a small team, offering real ownership and the opportunity to make a visible impact on the final game. Key Responsibilities • Create high-quality real-time VFX for gameplay, environments, characters, and combat., • Build and maintain effects in Unreal Engine, with a strong focus on Niagara., • Collaborate with gameplay, animation, and design teams to ensure VFX are readable, impactful, and well integrated., • Optimise effects for performance on PC and high-end console platforms., • Work closely with technical and art teams to support efficient workflows and scalable production pipelines., • Troubleshoot and resolve technical and visual issues as they arise., • Help maintain consistency and quality across all VFX content in the project., • Contribute ideas and solutions to improve iteration speed and production efficiency., • Document workflows, tools, and best practices where needed., • Support the broader team in achieving a polished, stylised final presentation. Essential Requirements • Extensive experience as a VFX Artist or Technical Artist (handling VFX responsibilities) in games., • Strong, demonstrable experience working in Unreal Engine, • Confident use of Niagara and a solid understanding of real-time VFX creation., • Programming skills in Python, C++, and Blueprints., • Proven experience developing for PC and/or high-end console platforms., • Strong understanding of optimisation, performance budgets, and technical constraints., • Ability to create effects suitable for stylised / cartoon art directions., • A portfolio or demo reel demonstrating strong range, technical ability, and visual quality., • Strong communication and collaboration skills., • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership in a small team environment. Desirable • Experience with procedural workflows and supporting tools., • Knowledge of shaders, materials, or rendering pipelines., • Familiarity with production workflows in a small studio environment., • Experience supporting other disciplines through tools or pipeline improvements.
