About Biomemory Biomemory, founded in 2021, boldly stands at the crossroads of Biotechnology and Computing, driven by a passion for sustainability. We are a well-funded start-up building IT rackable equipment for Data Centers, using synthetic DNA as the storage media. While this technology is still at its infancy, these DNA Data Storage Servers target the storage of massive amount of data (Exabytes) with a very long retention life-time (> 100 years) within an attractive capex and opex budget. Headquartered in Paris, Biomemory aims at serving the fast-growing international “cold-storage” market. Join us in rewriting the future of data storage! 🧬 About the job Mission As a NGS Scientist, you will contribute to all aspects of post-writing steps until post-DNA reading sequencing. It includes DNA processing, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), sequencing data analysis, and pipeline development, while maintaining strong hands-on molecular biology expertise. You will design, validate, and scale end-to-end sequencing workflows, from experimental design and wet-lab execution to robust, production-grade data analysis pipelines. You will set scientific standards & drive technical decisions. Main Responsibilities NGS Strategy & End-to-End Workflow Ownership • Own the end-to-end NGS workflows, from biological question to actionable data., • Define sequencing strategies, by being a driving force in proposing and implementing new technologies in the field of DNA sequencing., • Design and optimize downstream data analysis to meet R&D team requirements., • Set acceptance criteria, controls, and quality thresholds for sequencing-based validation. Sequencing Data Analysis & Pipeline Development • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable NGS data analysis pipelines., • Implement pipelines covering:, • Base quality filtering, • Alignment / assembly, • Variant detection and error profiling, • Coverage, bias, and contamination analysis, • Custom metrics tailored to experimental needs, • Ensure pipelines are reproducible, version-controlled & well-documented, • Scientific Rigor, QC and standardization, • Define and enforce scientific standards for sequencing data quality and interpretation., • Ensure traceability, auditability, and long-term reproducibility of sequencing data, • Collaborate closely with software engineers to ensure pipeline robustness, performance, and maintainability. Interest in synthetic biology, DNA-based technologies, or novel sequencing applications. Managerial experience (people and/or projects) Good to know💡 The position is onsite, based at our office located at 5 Impasse Reille in Paris. The workspace combines modern classic offices with advanced laboratory rooms, designed to foster collaboration between computer scientists and biologists. This setup supports our mission to tackle the challenges of DNA synthesis and writing, encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork and innovation. The position is subject to French law on fixed-hour contracts ("forfait heures"), with a 39-hour working week, which offers flexibility and ensures clear expectations regarding time commitments. Biomemory provides benefits beyond the French regulations, to support the well-being of its employees and enable them to best contribute to the success of the company. Upon successful first interview, we will be glad to share the details. About the recruitment process To respect everyone's time, we aim to keep the process efficient and reach a decision within a month. However, as we do not want to filter applications by diplomas or seniority, we have to check skills through tests and this requires a certain number of interviews. The selection process consists of four steps, organized as follows: • Introductory interview with our Talent Acquisition Manager (45’), • Interview with your potential future manager, • Case study interview with team members (90’), • “Culture fit” interview onsite (45’)
