Job opportunity in trauma informed social care

I’d like to let readers know about a job opportunity in supporting someone on a journey to living a full life with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

This would provide good insight into and be a good learning opportunity for students who are potential future therapists interested in working in trauma-informed practise and complex childhood trauma or for someone interested in gaining experience prior to embarking on a career in psychology.

I am the employer and the role is funded via a social work SDS direct payments package . It is based in Shotts, North Lanarkshire and the working pattern and hours are available to suit 2-3 successful candidates with both regular days and shift pattern and occasional overtime available. There are also longer shifts available including at weekends and occasionally wakened nights to allow for candidates traveling from outside the area

Additionally there are 1-2 PA’s required on a casual contract to cover annual leave, sickness and times of the year where more support is required. One such time is 20th December to 3rd Jan.

The rate of pay is £13 per hour and includes a pension contribution and generous annual leave entitlement.

The following is an insight from someone who has supported someone with DID and explains the reciprocal relationship in supporting someone with DID well.

“Supporting someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is often misunderstood — but it can be deeply meaningful.
DID is a natural response to overwhelming trauma, and people with DID are not broken or dangerous — they are survivors. When you take the time to listen, build trust, and honour the different parts of someone’s system, you begin to see something remarkable: resilience, depth, creativity, and the human drive to heal.

Yes, it takes patience and understanding.

But it’s also a privilege — to witness someone reclaim their voice, reconnect with lost parts of themselves, and move toward wholeness.

Supporting someone with DID isn’t just about what you give — it’s about what you learn, receive, and grow into together.
It’s not a burden. It’s a relationship.

Interviews are currently scheduled on an ongoing basis and start dates are available to suit the successful candidates from early November.

Please feel free to forward this post as you feel appropriate. I am more than happy for potential applicants to contact me via to discuss the role further or to answer any questions.

Thanks in advance.
