At Thames Water, we’re offering an exciting opportunity to train as a Class One LGV Driver through our fully supported apprenticeship programme. Please note: If you already hold a Class One license, you’re not eligible for this apprenticeship. Start Date: September 2026. Where you will work: Location: Oxford Hours: 38 hours a week across four working days plus one off-the-job training day What you will be doing as an LGV Class One Apprentice (Level 2) This is a fantastic opportunity to learn skills that are in high demand across the industry and will set you on the path to a rewarding career. Typical duties will include: • Shadowing drivers to learn routes and the sites we attend., • Driving with inter-site teams to move sludge between sewage treatment works., • Driving with the cake teams to deliver material to farmers for spreading on fields. (further clarity on cake teams for someone who isn’t familiar with LGV industry), • Driving with combi teams to clear out wet wells and prevent blockages., • Managing vehicle movements and collections, including welfare units, tankers, Hiabs, cars, and 4x4s., • Assisting with general vehicle maintenance to keep Thames Water’s fleet clean, fueled, charged, and ready to assist at any moment. About the Apprenticeship Programme, • A fully embedded induction programme delivered by Thames Water and TRS Training., • On-the-job training provided by the employer., • Allocation of an apprenticeship delivery coach who will provide regular training to develop your knowledge and skills., • Access to online learning and an e-portfolio to gather evidence demonstrating your progress, which will support your end-point assessment., • Programme duration: 12 months, plus an end-point assessment lasting 3-6 months. Additional details, • Initial location: Basingstoke Sewage Treatment Works (STW) for the first 12 months., • Working hours: 38 hours per week (start time 9:00am when onsite; hours may vary during training or college attendance)., • Training provider: TRS Training., • Qualifications obtained: Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) and Class C+E license., • An interest for driving and logistics, with the ambition to develop professional LGV skills., • A commitment to safety: You’ll be a role model for health and safety on the road and on-site, keeping yourself, your team, and the public safe at all times., • A proactive and responsible attitude: You’ll take pride in delivering excellent service, maintaining vehicle standards, and ensuring every journey is completed efficiently and safely., • Excellent communication skills: Whether co-ordinating with team members, site staff, or customers, you’ll communicate clearly and confidently and know when to raise concerns., • A team player who can also work independently: You’ll adapt to different environments and challenges, supporting your colleagues and working on your own initiative., • Motivation and a willingness to learn: You’ll embrace every training opportunity, applying new skills quickly and striving to improve throughout your apprenticeship and beyond., • Competitive starting salary of £22,500 per annum and following completion of your apprenticeship you will offboard on a starting salary of £38,126 to £47,674 per annum depending on your shift pattern., • Annual Leave: 24 days holiday per year increasing to 28 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)., • Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
