W&P Partners are working with a leading higher education institution seeking to appoint a Commercial Contracts Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a contracts professional to gain high-quality in-house experience in a supportive and collaborative environment. Reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will take responsibility for a wide range of commercial agreements across the University’s operations. The role will involve direct engagement with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring contracts are effectively reviewed, negotiated, and managed, while maintaining compliance with financial and governance frameworks. Key Responsibilities: • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide variety of commercial contracts, including academic partnership agreements, research collaborations, IT/software contracts, licensing agreements, consultancy arrangements, and procurement documentation., • Manage a personal portfolio of contracts from initiation through to execution., • Work closely with departments including Research & Enterprise, Apprenticeships, Marketing, International Office, and IT to provide practical contractual support., • Identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risks., • Liaise with internal clients and external partners to gather accurate information and ensure agreements reflect business needs., • Oversee contract administration, including maintaining registers, filing, and ensuring authorisation and execution procedures are followed., • Support the Head of Legal Services and wider team on process improvements and operational initiatives. About You: We are seeking applications from candidates with experience in commercial contract management, ideally gained in a higher education, professional services, or corporate environment. Essential skills and experience: • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts., • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain contract terms clearly and negotiate confidently., • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word., • A collaborative team player with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
