Job Title: Legal Counsel (General Advisory) Contract: Permanent Salary: £64,000 - £67,000 Working Arrangements: Hybrid Purpose of the Role The Legal Team provides legal advice, litigation support, training, and broader legal services across the organisation’s regulatory functions. As a Lawyer within the team, you will deliver high-quality, timely, and pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of areas. While the role covers general advisory work, there will be a particular focus on commercial contracts, data protection, and regulatory compliance. You will play a key role in managing legal risk and enabling informed, confident decision-making across the organisation. Key Responsibilities: Legal Advice and Support • Provide clear, pragmatic, and solution-focused legal advice across operational, policy, and governance matters, • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, agreements, and memoranda of understanding, • Advise on procurement processes and compliance requirements, • Provide guidance on data protection, privacy, and information governance, • Support on public law, administrative, and regulatory matters, • Develop and maintain internal policies, templates, and guidance, • Contribute to the delivery of legal training across the organisation, • Maintain legal records, filing systems, and support budget tracking where required Risk Management and Compliance • Identify and assess legal risks, supporting early mitigation, • Contribute to compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures, • Support internal awareness and training on legal and compliance matters Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement • Build strong working relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders, • Partner with colleagues to understand business needs and deliver commercially and strategically aligned legal advice, • Liaise with external legal advisers to ensure effective and proportionate use of external support, • Support cross-functional projects and organisational initiatives Continuous Improvement • Contribute to the ongoing development of the legal function, • Support knowledge sharing and process improvements, • Undertake horizon scanning to identify legal and regulatory developments, • Promote a proactive and solutions-focused legal culture Person Specification Essential • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or equivalent with a current practising certificate or eligibility to obtain one, • Strong general advisory legal experience, ideally within a public, regulatory, or commercial environment, • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and advising on procurement, • Good understanding of data protection, privacy, and information law, • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, • Sound judgment with a pragmatic approach to managing legal risk, • Ability to build effective working relationships
