Good Afternoon, I am currently representing Islington Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3- 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience We are looking for a Service Manager this role will be: 3 Elwood Street, N5 1EB The right candidate will: As a Service Manager you will have day-to-day operational responsibility across the Fostering and Permanence (Kinship) Service for social work practice, and for the child and family practitioners and managers. You will be a strategic lead providing quality assurance of practice and responsibility for how the service functions to improve outcomes for users of your service. • To provide operational leadership for fostering, kinship care, and permanency teams, ensuring high standards of practice and consistent compliance with statutory and regulatory frameworks. Ensure all fostering, kinship and SGO assessments meet required standards, including Form F, viability assessments, Reg 24, Form K, and SGO support plans., • To lead service development, innovation, and continuous improvement aligned with council priorities and Islington’s Children and Families Strategy. Contribute to strategic planning within Children’s Social Care, representing the service at panels, boards, and multi‑agency forums., • To ensure supervision, appraisal, workforce development, and performance management for all staff within the service., • To oversee preparation for Ofsted inspections, audits, and quality assurance processes., • To monitor and improve performance indicators, ensuring timely decision-making, robust care planning, and permanency outcomes. Implement learning from complaints, audits, serious case reviews, and research., • To lead the operational delivery of Islington’s permanency pathway, ensuring effective matching, placement stability, and long-term planning. We require the following: • Social work qualification, current registration with Social Work England, and post-qualifying experience as a manager in a statutory social work setting that includes management of high-risk cases and care planning. Experience of responsibility within services subject to statutory regulation within children’s social care, • Proven track record of quality assurance, supervision, or audit in a fostering or permanence setting, with demonstrable expertise in advising panels, decision-makers, or senior managers in statutory contexts., • In-depth knowledge of national policy developments, research, statutory guidance, legislation and best practice in fostering, permanency and family‑led care. Understanding of corporate parenting responsibilities and the needs of looked‑after children.
