We currently have a fantastic opportunity available for a Water Quality Technician to join our team based in Exeter . You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis , and in return, you will receive a competitive starting salary of £25,274 per annum and a supplement of £2, 738.51 for working a 1 in 5 weekend pattern. In the development of this role, you will be supported with a Water Quality Technician progression scheme where you can receive up to £29,518 per annum, plus a range of excellent company benefits + rewards. Progression Scheme: As part of your employment package, the successful candidate will enrol onto a company progression scheme consisting of a Level 2 NVQ qualification in Monitoring the Water Environment, which focusses on the procedures, skills and experiences to meet the requirements of the scheme. The Company will fully fund the equipment and training required. About the role: As our Water Quality Technician, you will undertake sampling activities and on-site analysis of drinking water at our sites and customer's premises to meet the requirements of the Company and the Regulators. You will also assist the Water Quality Scientists in the investigation of breaches of drinking water regulatory standards and in the resolution of customer enquiries relating to drinking water quality. What you'll be doing • Undertaking sampling duties from source to tap to ensure that all regulatory, operational monitoring and customer service requirements are met, • Complying with the Company's Health, Safety & Security policies, • Ensuring effective planning and delivery of sampling, monitoring and customer support activities, • Providing sampling support to Water Quality staff, • Complying with and suggesting improvements to the Company's Quality Management Systems, • Maintaining and improving the standard of customer contact, to ensure that the Company image is upheld and promoted, • Being aware when 'trigger point' and reporting triggers have been reached, ensuring that reporting is prompt to minimise any impact from these situations, • Providing monitoring support during events and incidents, • Assisting Water Quality Scientists in the effective and timely resolution of customer contacts, • Seeking to utilise resources available at minimum cost, ensuring equipment and records are maintained to the required standard, • Reporting on-site asset conditions What we are looking for: • 5 GCSE's or equivalent including Maths, English and a Science subject at grade C or above, • A full UK driving license as you will be required to attend our sites across the region on a daily basis, • The ability to follow procedures to the exacting standards demanded by the Regulator and business, • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to keep accurate records, • A logical approach to tasks and the confidence to use initiative when circumstances dictate, • Good geographical knowledge of the Southwest and happy to work outdoors in all weathers, • The ability to deliver to time, cost, quality and performance targets, • An understanding of the requirements of Quality Management Systems, e.g. ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, • Proficiency in the use of MS Office and confidence when using computers and learning new systems What's in it for you: At South West Water, we don't all do the same job, but we each get out of bed in the morning knowing that every day is a chance to make incredible things happen, together. The organisation delivers large-scale lighting and electrical infrastructure projects that help local authorities modernise public-realm assets and improve energy efficiency. Role Purpose The LV / Highways Jointer will carry out jointing and electrical works associated with street lighting, illuminated signs, bollards, and other highways electrical equipment. The role combines technical fieldwork, safety-critical operations, and customer-facing duties. Key Responsibilities Street Lighting & Highways Electrical Work: Installing, removing, wiring, and commissioning lighting columns and associated electrical street furniture. LV Jointing Activities: Excavating and preparing joint bays, handling LV service and mains cables, and completing jointing tasks with the support of a mate or second operative. Safety & Compliance: Completing risk assessments, following safe-system-of-work procedures, and maintaining strict adherence to electrical and highways safety standards. Emergency Response: Participating in a call-out rota to attend urgent faults or safety-related incidents. Customer Interaction: Engaging professionally with clients, site representatives, and members of the public to ensure a positive service experience. Essential Experience & Requirements Proven background working as an LV / Highways Jointer or in a similar LV cable jointing role within utilities, DNO/IDNO, ICP, or highways electrical environments. Previous authorisations or certification for underground LV connections. Competence in working on live LV single-phase service cables and terminations. Ability to safely remove and replace cut-outs or secondary fuses (single-phase). Skilled in LV supply testing and verification. Full UK driving licence. Comfortable working outdoors year-round in all weather conditions. Requirements for Higher Salary Band City & Guilds 2360 (Parts 1 & 2), 2351, 2330 (Levels 2 & 3), or equivalent recognised electrical qualifications. Experience or qualification enabling safe removal and replacement of cut-outs or secondary fuses on single- or three-phase systems. Desirable Qualifications & Extras Current NRSWA (Street Works) accreditation. NERS passport or similar network-authorisation certification. AM2 or City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing).
