Ilir Sela started Slice with the belief that local pizzerias deserve all of the advantages of major franchises without compromising their independence. Starting with his family’s pizzerias, we now empower over tens of thousands of restaurants with the technology, services, and collective power that owners need to better serve their digitally minded customers and build lasting businesses. We’re growing and adding more talent to help fulfil this valuable mission. That’s where you come in. This position is open to applicants across all of the UK on a remote basis, with the physical office located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Challenge to Solve How do mom-and-pop pizzerias survive and win in a world of big-budget pizza chains and third-party apps? This is the challenge you’ll help solve at Slice. Local pizzerias already outperform the big chains in offline sales, yet are outsold 20-to-1 online – a gap we’re determined to close. We operate at the intersection of high stakes and local community: our mission is to level the playing field for small businesses by providing them with the technology and capabilities that rival those of the biggest players. When a shop partners with Slice, our goal is that it feels “as if they’ve just hired 1,000 people” to support their business. As an engineer on our team, you’ll seek out bold, asymmetric opportunities to create these outsized impacts for our restaurant partners and the millions of customers they serve. It’s not just about writing code – it’s about writing the future of local pizza. What You'll Do As a Staff Software Developer on our Services team, you will immerse yourself in our ambitious mission and take on a wide range of responsibilities to drive customer impact. Specifically, you will: • Build innovative features & services: Design, code, and launch new backend features that help our restaurant partners operate more efficiently and deliver exceptional, seamless experiences to their customers. Your work will directly enhance real-world interactions between shops and pizza lovers every day., • Identify game-changing opportunities: Constantly look for asymmetric opportunities where a small technical change can deliver disproportionate value. You’ll use your creativity and entrepreneurial mindset to find 10x solutions that delight users and give our partners an edge., • Own projects end-to-end: Take ownership of initiatives from concept through production. You’ll work closely with product, design, and other teams to define solutions, execute rapidly, and iterate based on feedback. When you see a problem, you don’t wait - you tackle it., • Use the best tools for the job: While our primary stack is Python (Flask), we embrace any technology that delivers value. You might rewrite a microservice from Go to Python, craft a script in Ruby, or leverage a new cloud service – whatever it takes to solve the task at hand in a scalable way., • Collaborate in a small, agile team: Work alongside a tight-knit team of 5 to 8 backend engineers (across the US, UK, and Europe) who are as passionate about the mission as you are. Together, you will review code, brainstorm ideas, and push each other to raise the bar while maintaining a fun, supportive atmosphere., • Ensure quality and performance at scale: Employ best practices in coding, testing, monitoring, and DevOps to ensure our services are reliable and performant. You build it, you own it - from writing unit tests to fine-tuning logging and alerting, you’ll make sure your code runs smoothly in production. The Winning Recipe We’re looking for bold, founder-like engineers who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and build products that make a real difference. If you’re an unconventional thinker and a highly productive doer, you’ll feel right at home. The ideal candidate has: • Owner’s mindset: You think like a founder. You take initiative, own problems end-to-end, and move with urgency to deliver results. Obstacles energize you, and you thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment where your decisions drive real impact., • Proven builder: You have solid experience crafting scalable backend systems in Python (Flask) and working with databases and cloud services. You’re comfortable diving into monitoring and logging tools to keep systems healthy. More importantly, you’re technology-agnostic – you quickly pick up new languages or frameworks (Go, Ruby, or whatever is needed) to solve problems effectively., • Remote-ready collaborator: You excel at working on a distributed team and communicating asynchronously. You’re comfortable collaborating with teammates across different time zones and backgrounds, and you know how to stay connected and communicative in a remote work setting., • Product & customer focus: You care deeply about the why behind your code. You can clearly express opinions on product direction and design, always keeping the end-customer and restaurant owner in mind. At the same time, you respect others’ perspectives and believe the best ideas can come from anywhere., • Innovative problem solver: You love finding creative solutions to hard problems. Words like “impossible” or “uncharted” fuel your curiosity. You seek out those asymmetric win scenarios and aren’t afraid to experiment, adapt, and iterate to achieve a better outcome for users. If you’ve ever dreamed of building something big, scrappy, and impactful – and you have the skills to back it up – we want to meet you! The Extras Working at Slice comes with a comprehensive set of benefits, but here are some of the unexpected highlights: • Access to medical, dental, and vision plans, • Flexible working hours, • Generous time off policies, • £200 per annum employee wellbeing allowance, • Market leading maternity and paternity schemes The Hiring Process You’ll find a summary of your expected interview process below and we’ll stick to this as closely as possible, but please note this may be subject to change. • Application, • 30 minute introductory meeting, • 90 minute Live Coding Interview & 60 minute Technical Interview, • 45 minute Hiring Manager meeting, • Offer! Paddle offers digital product companies a completely different approach to their payment infrastructure. Instead of assembling and maintaining a complex stack of payments-related apps and services, we’re a Merchant of Record for our customers. That means we take away 100% of the pain of payment fragmentation. It’s faster, safer, cheaper, and, above all, way better. We’re backed by investors including KKR, FTV Capital, Kindred, Notion, and 83North and serve over 10, 000 software sellers in 245 territories globally. Self-serve today represents a meaningful part of Paddle's revenue. This role owns the commercial mandate to grow that significantly. Not just to run self-serve, but to build the strategy for where and how it scales, and execute against it. We're hiring a Director of Self-Serve to take full commercial ownership of Paddle's self-serve motion, running and scaling it as a business line. Self-serve is a material and fast-moving part of our revenue, and it needs an owner who thinks in unit economics, not just funnel metrics. You'll set the strategic direction, and work across Finance, Product, Engineering, Demand Generation, Partnerships, and RevOps to align everyone behind it. Getting this right is a genuinely cross-functional endeavour, and your ability to bring people with you will be just as important as your commercial acumen. You'll operate with a small, focused team including engineering capacity. This is a role for someone who wants to build and run the engine hands on, not manage through layers. Own the line. Carry the commercial number for self-serve end to end, from acquisition through adoption, to revenue and net retention. Own the unit economics, and how they improve. Set the strategy. Form a clear commercial view of where self-serve creates value, ensure Finance and Product alignment, and translate it into a plan the business can execute against. Own activation and time-to-value. Evolve who and how we onboard through self-serve, how we nurture them through lifecycle stages, and the in-product experience that gets them to value fast. Increasing volume while decreasing time-to-value, not trading one for the other. You fundamentally approach the self-serve experience as a product, running structured discovery and experimentation, not defaulting to only marketing levers. Shape the demand. Define the customer profile that makes the economics work and work collaboratively with Demand Generation on the targeting you need, co-owning a single funnel against a shared ICP. Orchestrate cross-functionally. Codify the work into clear streams with clear owners, influence the Product, Engineering, and Risk roadmaps, and run a regular business cadence that keeps people aligned on priorities and impact. Deepen partner integrations. Work hand-in-glove with Partnerships to turn distribution relationships into deep well-integrated channels, owning the commercial outcome of partner-sourced volume. Build and run the engine. Design and run the experimentation, tooling, and tracking to improve funnel codification, time-to-value, activation, and conversion using AI where it raises velocity and quality, applied to the right customer. As the motion scales, you'll shape the team around it. Make the economics stack up. Working closely with finance you own self-serve pricing and packaging as a lever, to ensure profitable scale. Go get the answer yourself. When something doesn't add up, you pull the data, run the analysis, and don't wait to be handed a conclusion. Self-reliance is core to how you operate, not a fallback when support isn't available. You interrogate, not just observe. Live the ‘five whys’ principle, with the ability to take a plausible looking number, trend, signal and stress-test it until you've found the actual driver, not the first explanation that fits. You default to hypothesis and experiment before you default to opinion or output, treating the funnel as something to be iteratively shaped, not just optimised within. Given a mission, you don't let go of it. You have a real hunger to find and unlock value you believe is there, working through blockers, organisational, technical, or data. Deeply experienced in a PLG or self-serve motion in a high-growth tech business, where you've built and owned the funnel rather than a sales-assisted or enterprise motion, and have been accountable for the number, not adjacent to it. A commercial operator who has owned a revenue line, channel, or segment. Someone who operates in founder mode with the instinct to understand the economics, not just the funnel beneath them. You think like a product manager: prioritizing ruthlessly, scope experiments tightly, and see the boundary between growth and product as something to work across. Fluent at moving from data to a commercial conclusion, with the discipline to separate signal from noise and turn analysis into a clear decision rather than a list of observations. A sharp critical thinker who interrogates the brief rather than taking it at face value, challenges assumptions (including ours), and is as willing to conclude "this isn't where we should be investing" as to confirm the plan. A genuine cross-functional leader who has brought structure to messy, multi-team programmes, influenced roadmaps you don't control, and run the cadence that holds a programme together. A credible presence in front of senior stakeholders up to executive level; you communicate with clarity and authority and can take a room with competing priorities to a clear decision. Equally comfortable operating at altitude and dropping into the detail, and always coming back up with a point of view, not just findings. Able to use AI pragmatically; dynamic onboarding, predictive scoring, real-time segmentation, as a means to commercial outcomes, not an end in itself. At Paddle, we're committed to removing invisible barriers, both for our customers and within our own teams. Description African businesses import $700 billion worth of goods and services per year but paying their suppliers abroad remains a massive challenge. Their options today are limited to traditional banks and the black market. Going through banks means poor customer service, high transaction costs and unfavorable exchange rates. Transactions that should take a few days end up taking weeks and cost merchants up to 9% in fees. The situation is equally dire for consumers who pay some of the highest P2P transfer fees in the world and are stuck with mobile money technology that is now decades old. We are building Kappa to fix that. Our cross-border payments platform is designed for ultra low-cost, near-instant money transfer at significantly higher transaction sizes than what’s currently possible. Our mission is to break down the barriers that have held back African businesses for decades. Kappa is looking for a Product Owner to join the team and help scale up our cross-border payments platform in Africa and beyond. Coming in early, you will take full ownership of the product across mobile and web and be end-responsible for delivering value to customers. Part of a globally distributed team spread across Africa, Europe and the Middle East, this role comes with significant autonomy, and offers a chance to help build a massive business that will have a positive impact on millions of lives. Our platform has processed over $1 billion across tens of thousands of transactions for African businesses, but we are just getting started. We have big ambitions as we scale up in existing markets and roll out in new ones, and we are looking for someone with matching ambition to drive that expansion. • You'll take end-to-end ownership of our web and mobile apps — from talking to customers and framing the problem, through the requirements and the design, to what the numbers say in production, • You’ll drive the product roadmap — Decide what we build next (and what we don't), working in close collaboration with sales, operations, and the leadership team, • You’ll work in a tight feedback loop with engineering — Specify the what and the why, leverage a world-class engineering team for the how, and stay close while it gets built, • You’ll spend real time with the people who use our product — Importers and exporters in Africa, from SMEs to multi-nationals, and our sales and operations teams on the ground who talk to them every day, • You’ll design flows for reliability, robustness and scale — You'll spend as much time on what happens when a transaction fails or gets stuck as on the happy path Requirements • 5+ years in product management. Experience with fintech products (payments, lending, banking) is a hard requirement. Plus points for cross-border payments and for building in emerging markets, • Payments fluency — Settlement, reconciliation, chargebacks, RFIs, treasury and liquidity. You treat KYC, AML and licensing as constraints that factor into the design from day one, not as blockers that show up late, • Writing that makes building unambiguous — Problem, customers, success criteria and constraints come before any solution. Two engineers (or coding agents) reading your spec independently would build the same thing, • Design judgment and the ability to act on it — You can say why one screen works better than another in terms of what the customer is looking to achieve. You’re able to produce the flows yourself using AI-driven tooling (e.g. Pen.dev, Claude Design) rather than relying on a designer, • Technical credibility — You can read an API schema or contract, follow an architecture discussion, and know when a requirement you've written is accidentally expensive or comes with hidden complexity. You have a sense for what’s hard vs easy to build., • Range and operating across layers of context — You can give the CEO the two lines that matter and the engineer the edge case that breaks the design, and go deeper when needed Benefits • Highly competitive salary and equity — top of market. We believe in hiring fewer but better people and paying them more., • Health, dental and vision insurance (for you and your dependents), • Work fully remotely from any Africa-friendly timezone (GMT-2h to GMT+3h). Regular travel to Africa to meet with customers, sales and operations on the ground will be required., • New MacBook Pro and up to $2,000 for home office equipment (headphones, chair, standing desk, etc.), • Parental leave / family-friendly culture, • Generous paid time off

Role: AI Architect Reports to: Chief AI Officer (line management) Location in structure: AI/Data architecture area — embedded within the delivery area it serves, line-managing centrally to the Chief AI Officer Experience: Senior — 6+ years in software, data, or platform engineering/architecture, with meaningful hands-on time on production AI systems, not just pilots Direct reports: None. Influence comes from judgement and presence in the right conversations, not headcount. AI decisions at Citation now cut across Product, Engineering, Security, Infrastructure, and the Business simultaneously — model selection, data architecture, cost, and risk are no longer separable concerns. Without a dedicated architectural owner, each initiative makes these calls independently: patterns diverge, risk goes unspotted until it's expensive, and nobody owns the AI-specific decisions that don't belong wholly to any one function. This isn't a hypothetical gap. Much of this work is already happening informally inside Citation's AI delivery — reviewing partner Statements of Work, governing what goes through Code Factory, acting as the practical architectural voice on live builds. This role formalises that into a mandate with the standing and scope it needs. The AI Architect is Citation's dedicated architect for the AI/Data area, sitting alongside the architects covering Human Resources, Business Systems, Health & Safety, eLearning, Verification, Certification, and Atlas Platform: embedded in the delivery area it serves day to day, but line-managing centrally to the Chief AI Officer so its calls hold across the business, not just the team it happens to sit nearest to. The architecture hub owns target-state and standards across the whole architecture function; this role owns the AI-specific application of it, escalating decisions with consequences beyond AI/Data to the Architecture Review Board rather than deciding them alone. The clearest sign this role is working: AI initiatives at Citation start well and stay on track architecturally. In practice that means: • Established patterns are the default starting point for new builds, not something teams discover after the fact, • Design questions are resolved before Engineering starts building, not during or after, • Third-party Statements of Work are assessed architecturally before they're signed, • Model and hosting choices are made against a documented decision framework, not habit or vendor pressure, • Token spend and cost-per-outcome are tracked and explainable, not a surprise on the invoice, • Security is involved in every significant initiative from the start, not introduced at the end, • Leadership has a current, accurate view of AI architectural risk and direction, with no significant surprises Architectural standards and patterns Own the design patterns Citation builds its AI systems to: retrieval and grounding approaches for systems that need Citation's own knowledge rather than a model's general training, agent orchestration patterns and tool-calling conventions for multi-step and multi-agent work, prompt construction and guardrail design, and the routing logic that decides which model handles which step. Keep these current as the landscape moves, and write decisions down in a form Engineering and Product can actually build against — architecture decision records, not a slide deck. Align standards to Citation's five-layer AI platform architecture. Hold a documented, evidence-based framework for choosing between closed frontier models accessed through a provider's API (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) and open-weight models run on Citation's own infrastructure (Llama, Mistral, Qwen and similar) — and apply it per workload, not as a single blanket choice. The framework should weigh: • Task complexity — complex reasoning and long‑horizon agentic work generally favour frontier closed models; simpler classification, extraction, and templated generation are often better served by smaller open-weight models at a fraction of the cost, • Volume and cost at scale — at high token volumes, self‑hosting open-weight models can cross into materially cheaper territory; this role owns the analysis of where that break‑even sits for Citation's actual workloads, not a generic industry number, • Data sensitivity and residency — for HR, employment, and compliance data, self‑hosting open-weight models remove a class of third‑party data‑sharing risk that closed providers (even with strong contractual terms) don't fully eliminate, • Fine‑tuning and customisation — where an open-weight model fine‑tuned on Citation's own data would outperform a general‑purpose model at lower running cost, that's a build case this role should be able to make with evidence, not intuition, • Latency, licensing, and total cost of ownership — including the practical overhead of running and maintaining your own models, not just the sticker price of tokens Understand and actively manage the unit economics of every AI solution recommended, including: • Modelling likely token cost at design time, before a system is built, so the business knows what it's signing up for, • Specifying model routing (cheaper models for simpler steps, frontier models reserved for what actually needs them), prompt and context engineering for efficiency, and caching where appropriate, • Recognising that agentic and multi‑agent patterns can multiply token consumption several‑fold over a single well‑scoped call, and that orchestration‑pattern choice is itself a cost decision, • Setting up the observability to track cost‑per‑outcome and cache performance over time, not just the total spend line Assess whether the data behind any AI initiative is structured, accessible, and reliable enough to support the intended behaviour — across Citation's Salesforce, Atlas, Snowflake, and integration layers — and flag readiness issues before they become delivery blockers. Hold the approval path for new AI architectural patterns and material departures from existing standards. Attend initiative design conversations early enough to shape them, not just review them, and sign off on the AI design elements of partner Statements of Work. Define scope and success criteria for AI spikes and proofs of concept before they start, validate vendor and partner capability claims before they're embedded in a committed design, and make sure proof‑of‑concept outputs are evaluated against real delivery constraints — not vendor demo conditions. Act as the internal architectural counterpart to Citation's delivery partners, the way any enterprise architecture function holds its critical vendors to a defined standard: review proposals and Statements of Work before commitments are made, run design reviews during delivery, and give partners a well‑defined target with technical challenge where their decisions need scrutiny. Set the standard for how AI systems are monitored and evaluated once live — offline and online evaluation, drift detection, guardrails — and own the response framework for AI incidents in production, alongside the cost governance described above. Bring Security in as #J-18808-Ljbffr
