Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight Salary: Up to £56,140 dependent on experience. Part time & accruing hours available. Please let us know if you would like to discuss these options What you’ll be doing: • Apply depth and breadth of Manufacturing Engineering knowledge and experience to Support/undertake development in the following disciplines: Electromechanical assembly, • Interpret production drawing data to identify & generate: Tooling requirements, Manufacturing process requirements, handling & safety requirements, estimation of assembly times, methods/routings, • Create and maintain manufacturing work instructions, effective/efficient/practical shopfloor layouts, • Conduct the following health and safety related activities: Risk, COSHH, PUWER, Manual handling assessments, • Undertake technical liaison with sub-contractors and customers, • Develop training packages to ensure modern technologies and processes are understood and correctly implemented, • Experience of working in a Manufacturing Environment, • Requires a good understanding in MRP/ERP systems, • Excellent understanding of Production Engineering principles, • An ability to read and understand engineering drawings, circuit diagrams etc. As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive. The Manufacturing Engineering team: The Manufacturing Engineering team consists of 6 Engineers, including this position. Our Engineers participate in every step of the build process, providing support to the manufacturing functions to ensure requirements are met. Our client is a world class electro mechanical manufacturing service provider who specializes in various industries including aerospace and automotive. They are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who will report to the Engineering Manager and provides leadership and expert knowledge to ensure that assembly equipment, processes and procedures are working efficiently and effectively. In addition to this, the Manufacturing Engineer will work with the Production Manager to assist with ensuring that production schedules are met by providing guidance and training to production staff so they can meet the required assembly times and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Liaise with the Operations Manager, Production & MPS, to assist with prioritizing production and ensuring production processes and engineering documentation are available. Liaise with QA to ensure that quality issues related to production processes are addressed in a timely manner. Communicate any problems of an internal nature to the Engineering Manager and produce reports to record and communicate process issues to other departments and Customers. To ensure processes and procedures will produce products that conform to customer requirements. Ensure the process/procedures are adding value to the business by implementing suitable tooling and improving key processes identified either internally by department members or by KPIs. Assist Product Engineering with NPI and provide DFM feedback to customers and prospective customers to ensure products are optimized for assembly using our client's processes. Assist Product Engineering with configuration control of all supplied documents & engineering packs and introduce customer design changes at agreed implementation points. Qualifications & Requirements Relevant degree level qualification or demonstratable knowledge of electronic manufacturing is essential. Experience in electronic manufacturing is essential. Strong PCB Assembly knowledge Knowledge of project planning is important. Understanding configuration control is important. Key Personal Skills Excellent communicator, written and verbal. Must be able to work under own initiative to solve problems. Supervisory or Team Leading experience preferred. Disciplined and controlled approach. Strong eye for detail and the ability to maintain accurate records. Responsive. Highly motivated and able to motivate others to achieve. Calm and collected, with the ability to work under pressure. The role will aim to provide Production Engineering support for the final assembly and testing of remotely operated vehicles and systems, with a focus on clear, standardised process documentation. In addition, ensure appropriate production processes, equipment, and facilities are in place to safely and consistently manufacture products to meet cost, time, and quality requirements. Key Responsibilities: Conduct an analysis of current SOPs in the integration department to identify gaps, outdated procedures and areas for improvement. Standardise process and procedures across the department to ensure consistency, reduce variation, and enhance cross-departmental collaboration. Own, document and train others on manufacturing process and standards. Attend SQCDP meetings and support a hands-on problem solving approach with Area Team Leader and Quality Engineering to achieve OTD and right first time objectives. Assess compliance and adhere to safety/quality standards. Providing technical support for production and production control. Developing, optimising and implementing factory floor layouts/production cells. Analyse data to drive continuous improvement of processes and workflows. Skills and Experience: Multi-disciplined senior engineer with an electrical bias and experience in test, pre-commissioning, and fault finding. Background in low-volume, one-off engineered products and systems; ideal for Production, Project, or Delivery Engineers. Strong mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering knowledge, especially for complex assemblies like ROVs. Troubleshooting: Technical problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve production issues. Minimum qualifications HNC/HND, Bachelor's degree or relevant experience preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Hands-on production support experience in assembly, testing, and quality control. Relevant certifications (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt) are a plus; familiarity with hydraulics is also beneficial. Support and training is available for Working with Electrics, High Voltages, and Hydraulics.
