The role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Specialist to join our dedicated Building Safety Team. You'll ensure that all Southern Housing's owned and managed properties are maintained to the highest possible fire safety standards, and that all fire safety policy outcomes, statutory and regulatory requirements are met. You'll be a go to person for fire specialist advice, delivering key fire safety activities and being a subject matter expert for fire safety. Some additional key duties involve: • Working with external fire safety partnerships and services, including FRS Primary Authority Partnership, Evacuation Management and Fire Authorities., • Providing advice and support to other staff, both technical and non-technical, on fire safety related matters such as PCFRA, FRA, PEEPS., • Performing audit schemes to ensure fire safety standards and documentation is in place., • Investigating fire incidents, report findings and recommendations., • Taking part in resident engagements advising residents on fire safety in their own home and at resident forums., • Providing training to staff and contractors. You'll have a base at one of our main offices in either Farringdon, Hasting or Sittingbourne, although the role will be field based predominantly covering London. You will also have the option for working in a hybrid way when appropriate and as agreed with your manager. What you'll need: • Experience in Fire and Building Safety within the housing sector or similar industry, • Level 4 Accredited Fire Safety qualification, member of an appropriate Fire Safety Body e.g. IFSM, IFE (Desirable), • Experience of working with external service providers to ensure service requirements are delivered - FRS, PAP & HSE, • Experience of maintaining and analysing stock data within the asset database, • Knowledge and experience of working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver improved services and performance, • Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, • You'll be pragmatic with a creative approach to problem solving and can quickly identify and evaluate problems to reach a solution, • A full UK driving licence & access to a vehicle In your supporting statement, it is important that you address how you meet each of the above eight criteria providing real examples. The role We are looking for a Maintenance Surveyor to join our Reactive Repairs team. The primary function of the Maintenance Surveyor role is to provide a responsive surveying service for Southern Housing. You will ensure that all Southern Housing-owned and managed properties are maintained to the highest possible standards and that all statutory and regulatory requirements are met. You will ensure staff, residents, leaseholders, managing agencies and property owners are provided with a high standard of service. The role is based in our Hastings office covering East and some parts of West Sussex. For this role you will need a full clean UK driving License. What you'll be doing • To undertake the management of responsive repairs by site inspections, including taking corrective action where necessary and reporting regularly to the Contract Manager on progress., • To analyse and assess building defects, provide remedial proposals, and prepare specifications for remedial repairs. To ensure specifications are to a high standard of detail and meet current legislative standards., • To obtain, where necessary, quotations and estimates in accordance with our procurement procedures., • To maintain communication and consultation to the highest possible standard of customer care with internal and external stakeholders., • To ensure work is carried out within the budgets and value for money is achieved, through scrutinising quotations, variation requests and proposed specifications., • Experience as a building surveyor in a maintenance environment, carrying out pre, mid and post inspections., • Knowledge of relevant and current codes of practice, building regulations, health and safety legislation, standards, and materials., • Knowledge of construction and design-related defects and how to avoid them., • Knowledge of procurement law and different forms of contract., • Knowledge of contract management.
