How can you help us? Our clients vary in their experience with laboratory software and automation. Our Professional Services team serves as a trusted technical partner on their journey. We would love for you to be both their teacher and pillar of support. You will have an in-depth, technical understanding of the Synthace platform and impart this knowledge to our clients, ultimately maximizing the value of Synthace and driving adoption of our software, the Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology, and automation. What will you be doing? As a Field Application Scientist II, you will be our clients' go-to expert in automation and DOE, helping them maximize the benefits of Synthace. Think of yourself as a teacher and support system for them. You will: • Partner with clients to configure their software and liaise with IT teams to embed Synthace into their digital ecosystem and scientific labs., • Engage clients in improving their adoption of automation, particularly with dispensers (such as SPT Dragonfly, Beckman Coulter Echo, Formulatrix Mantis, Gyger Certus Flex)., • Meet with client scientists to discuss experimental details, understand their pain points, and identify underlying problems and needs., • Translate customer protocols and experiments into Synthace workflows and present them to clients, with clear communication of the platform’s functionality, • Provide technical troubleshooting support for clients using the Synthace platform., • Train and consult with clients on the most valuable use of Synthace to address their experimental goals, with particular focus on DOE methodology and automation., • Support clients during DOE execution and guide best practices with automation., • Assist clients with data analysis and model fitting, helping them develop statistically valid models and identify key trends., • Produce summary reports of DOE campaign results, including documentation of optimized factor ranges., • Contribute to improving internal resources (e.g., training materials, videos, etc.) and established processes within the team., • Be a technical expert both externally and internally, sharing your knowledge with our sales, marketing, product, and engineering teams., • At times, you may be required to support the product house in testing and iterating on newly developed features, and in supporting feature release efforts, • Act as subject matter expert for the sales team, and provide support in pre-sales activities, including occasional customer demos and conference attendance. “Here we go, a list of criteria, and I must fill each one; otherwise, what’s the point in applying?” No! Skills and experience: what are we looking for? You are someone who can convey complex concepts simply and intuitively, possesses a passion for problem-solving with limited information, and demonstrates a proactive desire to learn new things. Most importantly, you are a doer who gets results The essential requirements and characteristics for a successful Field Application Scientist II are: • A STEM PhD in a relevant field (e.g., biological sciences, cell biology, drug discovery, etc.) with 1 year of industry experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of industry experience., • Hands-on wet lab experience in a relevant field (cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, assay development, drug discovery), • Understanding of life science methodologies, particularly in the areas of drug discovery and assay development., • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology and understanding of DOE campaign phases (Screening, Optimization, Robustness & Validation)., • Ability to analyze and interpret DOE data using statistical tools such as JMP or the Synthace platform., • Possessing strong communication skills, you will act as the expert in the room, both internally and externally., • Proven ability to work independently and actively seek out resources when needed., • Analytical and data-driven mindset, with a strong motivation to tackle difficult technical problems., • High personal initiative and a solution-focused attitude, with the ability to prioritise work and manage multiple demands simultaneously., • A team-focused mentality and the ability to work effectively with others across different teams., • Confidence to challenge conventions and drive improvements to the team and company. Extra points for: nice to have, but teachable • Strong knowledge of laboratory automation hardware and software with particular emphasis on dispensers (such as SPT Dragonfly, Beckman Coulter Echo, Formulatrix Mantis, Gyger Certus Flex)., • Prior experience in field roles with client/user-facing support or applications., • Previous experience in a scientific software or hardware company, • Previous start-up experience, • Experience with assay development or drug discovery, • Experience with liquid handlers (e.g., Tecan EVO, Tecan Fluent, Hamilton Star, etc.) Working at Synthace Travel expectations: This role includes travel of up to ~ 40 % of your time, mainly in the UK, Europe, and the US. Occasionally, travel further afield may be required.
