We’re looking for our next Scaffold Design Engineer to join a high-profile, nuclear new build project. This is your chance to be part of something truly transformative. As our Scaffold Design Engineer, you’ll take the lead on delivering safe, innovative, and compliant scaffold designs for a major nuclear construction project. From initial concept through to on-site execution, you’ll be the technical authority – ensuring that everything is built not just to spec, but to the highest safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities: • You’ll act as the lead design engineer for scaffold-related temporary works., • You’ll create high-quality drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk tools; that means creating detailed engineering calculations that comply with British and European standards., • You’ll prepare full technical documentation in line with CDM regulations and internal processes., • You’ll collaborate with design managers, JV partners, site teams, and client representatives to develop the best possible solutions., • You’ll provide technical support, expert advice, and guidance to the wider team., • You’ll review and check scaffold designs to ensure they meet BS5975 standards. What You’ll Bring to the Role: We’re after someone who blends technical skill with practical insight – someone who’s confident, collaborative, and ready to take ownership of complex challenges. • You have a qualification in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering (HNC, HND or Degree)., • You have at least 3 years’ experience in scaffolding design., • You’re proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and ideally structural analysis software., • You have strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and a clear sense of prioritisation., • You have experience on major infrastructure projects – particularly within highly regulated industries., • You’re driven by a desire to learn, grow, and contribute to a team that values innovation. About the entity Framatome is a major international player in the nuclear energy market recognised for its innovative solutions and value-added technologies for designing, building, maintaining, and advancing the global nuclear fleet. The company designs, manufactures, and installs components, fuel and instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants and offers a full range of reactor services. Your missions EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide. At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes. For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK. We are looking to recruit for the role of JDO Mechanical Calculation Engineer. The Mechanical Calculation Engineer position focuses on supporting field design activities for the piping discipline within the HPC project. The role involves managing interfaces with multiple disciplines and resolving piping engineering issues encountered during on-site installation of pipework and associated supports. The engineer will ensure compliance with nuclear industry standards and project milestones while maintaining EPR-E procedures. The main tasks will be the following: Data Collection and Analysis: Gather input data, analyse/update hypothesis notes, and prepare detailed loading description reports for piping systems and supports. Mechanical Stress Analyses: Perform piping flexibility calculations, piping support calculations, and finite element analysis (FEA) to address installation and operational issues using PipeStress, RSTAB & ANSYS software's. Conduct dynamic analysis of nuclear structures and components under seismic, thermal conditions (pseudo-static/dynamic), including frequency analysis and structural rigidity assessment. Design and calculate anchorages (Pre/Post Embedded Plates using VerifPlatines software or Hand calculations), welds, and bolted connections for piping and equipment supports. Design and Modification: Propose proportionate modifications when sizing criteria are not met. Verification and Quality Control: Review calculation notes and guide drawings subcontracted to external companies. Check steel structures (e.g., base frames, racks), supports for electrical cabinets, batteries, boxes, main cable trays, instrumentation (pressure/temperature/level sensors), and HVAC support systems (for ducts, chillers, condensers, centrifugal fans etc..). Support and assist Equipment Department to verify calculation notes for various equipment such as Pumps, Valves, Flanges, Heat exchangers, Tanks, and Pressure Vessels. Technical Support and Documentation: Provide technical clarifications to NNB and respond to site requests (RFI, FCR, NCR). Offer technical support to others disciplines for a wide range of calculations (handling systems...) Prepare and review technical documentation to support design and installation activities. Collaboration: Collaborate with installation contractors, civil works (CW) interfaces, and other disciplines (e.g., Electrical, HVAC, E You are Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills: • Master in science, Mechanical engineering degree • First experience of 2 years minimum in Mechanical Calculations, nuclear industry, or equivalent experience • Knowledge of EUROCODE, ASME and RCC-M code • Knowledge of 2D and 3D design software: PDMS (if possible), NavisWorks, PIPESTRESS, RSTAB, ANSYS APDL and WORKBENCH • Knowledge of piping and support calculation tools • Experience working in a multicultural environment • Curious, motivated to learn Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills: • Knowledge of the HPC project or previous EPR and associated studies/doctrine is a real asset • Knowledge of Nuclear engineering and specificities, building NI, CI & BoP buildings would be beneficial. • Excellent Interpersonal skills, conscientiousness, organisation, writing ability • Good organizational, writing and oral expression skills in English are essential for the realization of the activities of document production, steering and interfaces with the various correspondents. • Ability to meet commitments and deadlines.
