Reed are recruiting for a Payroll Lead to join a well-established and growing organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced payroll specialist to take ownership of end-to-end payroll while supporting key HR processes in a fast-paced environment. \n The Role \n This position is responsible for managing and delivering accurate, compliant payroll operations while also providing hands-on support across HR administration and employee lifecycle activities. \n You will play a key role in ensuring a smooth payroll process, maintaining data integrity, and enhancing the overall employee experience. \n Key Responsibilities \n Payroll \n\n • Manage and process monthly payroll from start to finish\n, • Collect, verify, and reconcile payroll data including overtime, bonuses, and deductions\n, • Process starters, leavers, salary changes, and statutory payments\n, • Submit RTI reports and ensure all HMRC and pension obligations are met\n, • Complete year-end payroll activities including P45s, P60s, and P11Ds\n, • Maintain accurate payroll records in line with GDPR\n, • Identify and implement process improvements\n, • Resolve payroll queries and discrepancies promptly\n\n Compliance & Reporting \n\n • Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, pensions, statutory payments)\n, • Keep up to date with regulatory changes and best practice\n, • Support reporting and payroll cost forecasting\n\n Employee Support \n\n • Act as first point of contact for payroll queries\n, • Provide clear explanations of payslips, tax codes, and deductions\n, • Maintain confidentiality at all times\n\n HR Support \n\n • Assist with onboarding and new starter inductions\n, • Maintain employee records and HR systems\n, • Support HR compliance and administrative processes\n, • Assist with performance review cycles and employee engagement activities\n, • Provide general HR administrative support and project assistance\n\n Stakeholder Collaboration \n\n • Work closely with HR, Finance, and senior management\n, • Liaise with pension providers and external stakeholders\n, • Support managers with payroll-related guidance\n\n About You \n Essential Skills & Experience \n\n • 3–5 years’ payroll experience\n, • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements\n, • Experience processing end-to-end payroll\n, • Experience using Sage Payroll\n, • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills\n, • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy\n, • Strong organisational and time management skills\n, • Ability to manage sensitive data with discretion\n, • Confident communicator with excellent problem-solving skills\n, • CIPP qualification (Level 3 or 5)\n, • Previous experience supporting HR functions\n, • Exposure to CIS or construction sector payroll\n\n Key Performance Indicators \n\n • Near 100% payroll accuracy\n, • 100% on-time payroll delivery\n, • High compliance with payroll regulations\n, • Low payroll error rate and query levels\n\n Why Apply? \n\n • Opportunity to take ownership of payroll processes\n, • Varied role combining payroll and HR\n, • Collaborative and supportive working environment\n, • Chance to contribute to process improvements and business growth\n\n If you’re an experienced payroll professional looking for a role with added variety and responsibility, we’d love to hear from you. \n Apply today through Reed.
