Legal & Compliance Officer Location: Luton Rate: Up to £250 per day Job Type: Contract Overview We’re working with a leading UK space and technology organisation to find a Legal & Compliance Officer to support commercial, contractual, and regulatory activities across complex programmes. This role sits at the intersection of legal advisory, risk management, and compliance, supporting sales, project, and functional teams to ensure contracts are robust, compliant, and commercially sound. As a Legal & Compliance Officer, you’ll play a key role in managing contractual risk, providing timely legal guidance, and ensuring adherence to national laws, internal policies, and regulatory frameworks. You’ll work closely with senior legal leadership as part of a small, collaborative team supporting high-value and technically complex programmes. Key Responsibilities • Provide legal and contractual advice across commercial activities, including drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts., • Identify, assess, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks across projects and supplier agreements., • Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements, monitoring changes and supporting updates to policies and procedures., • Lead and support contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and commercial discussions with clients and suppliers., • Structure, manage, and advise on partnerships, collaborations, and framework agreements., • Support proposal and bid activity, including defining contractual terms and conditions for new business., • Maintain accurate and auditable contract records and documentation., • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency of legal and contractual approaches across the organisation., • Attend and contribute to key business, project, and commercial meetings as required., • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, suppliers, and external stakeholders. Required Skills & Experience • 5+ years’ experience within commercial legal and contracts functions, including drafting and reviewing prime contracts, subcontracts, NDAs, and framework agreements., • Experience managing downstream and upstream flow-down of contractual terms on medium and/or large programmes., • Strong ability to identify and manage contractual and commercial risk., • Excellent communication, negotiation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills., • Ability to work independently, manage change, and operate effectively under pressure., • Demonstrated integrity and ability to build trust with internal and external stakeholders. Desirable Skills • Experience within the space and/or defence sectors., • Knowledge of intellectual property rights, software licensing, and associated contractual terms., • Familiarity with regulated or security-sensitive programme environments.
