What you’ll be doing as a Project Manager • Manage several projects through their life cycle, including commercial management, risk management and associated reporting., • Establish and continuously promote a proactive health, safety, and environment culture across complex and high-risk Project portfolios and our service providers., • Develop and deliver an optimised project to achieve all regulatory, statutory, and internal outputs, deadlines, and targets., • Accountability throughout the project lifecycle, governance compliance, and effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders lead to the smooth transition of project outcomes into operational business., • Actively protecting, managing, and enhancing Thames Water’s reputation with external customers and stakeholders., • Development of project briefs, including supplementary information for the project's subsequent early contractor involvement phase., • Supporting the development and definition of the tender package(s), including the scope of work to support the Procurement team through each stage of the tender process, ensuring the demanding timescales are met., • Managing the project's ‘route to consent’ strategy, highlighting program and project risks relating to required consents, and considering any potential early works., • Managing and assuring the performance of contractors to deliver project outcomes on time, cost, and quality. Hybrid basis – 2 to 3 days a week at our Maple Lodge Office, WD3 9SQ and visiting our construction sites. 36 hours Monday to Friday The successful candidate will ideally drive and have access to transportation. What you should bring to the role To thrive in this role, the essential criteria are: • A background in construction or utilities-based projects., • A technical education and engineering background., • Understanding of the project’s life cycle and how to communicate it to both external and internal stakeholders effectively., • Be knowledgeable on the stage-gate project management process., • Have a strong background in delivering a programme of projects from beginning to end of completion., • Strong communication skills to be able to liaise with internal and external backgrounds, • Understanding of Health and Safety standards, legislation and governance. The Opportunity We’re looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor (MEP) to join our expanding Engineering team. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills, lead commercial delivery on a range of projects, and play a key role in the region’s continued growth. This position will be split between the office and regional sites in line with our flexible working policy. What You Will Be Doing • Working closely with, reporting to, and implementing the directives of the Regional Director/Manager and Managing Quantity Surveyor., • Ensuring the timely submission of all data required for monitoring and analysing project performance., • Liaising with Contracts Managers on day-to-day commercial administration to safeguard the financial success of MEP operations., • Preparing or approving accurate draft sub-contracts., • Supervising, mentoring, and supporting junior commercial staff with their professional development and project contributions., • Ensuring all contract notices and submissions are issued in accordance with relevant contract requirements., • Preparing main contract payment applications, including admeasure and additional cost claims, and ensuring timely submission of detailed claims and final accounts., • Supporting the administration and performance management of sub-contractors to secure timely, economic completion of their obligations., • Managing the preparation and submission of main contract applications, cash collection, and sub-contractor payments within required timeframes., • Contributing to dispute avoidance and resolution processes., • Leading and managing meetings as required., • Providing line management and guidance to commercial team members. What We Need From You • Strong and comprehensive understanding of the construction industry and its key stakeholders., • Proficient knowledge of measurement, valuation, and standard forms of contract., • Ability to read drawings and specifications, with solid knowledge of construction and MEP processes., • Strong negotiation skills for client and sub-contractor interactions, including drafting of sub-contracts., • Knowledge of CIS requirements., • Ability to produce accurate monthly cost/value reports and reliable outturn financial forecasts., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills., • Strong problem-solving abilities., • Professional membership (e.g. RICS) is desirable., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Coins., • Experience conducting risk assessments and contributing to their valuation., • Extensive experience with live projects and final accounts., • Experience in value engineering, dispute resolution, and procuring major works sub-contracts., • Proven experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff., • Experience in health, education, mixed-use, and commercial projects is highly desirable., • Flexible and adaptable approach to change.
