Job Description Phlebotomist This phlebotomist role focuses on providing high-quality, high-volume blood collection services in a busy outpatient setting. You will perform 20–30 or more blood draws per day for a diverse patient population, including many pediatric and geriatric patients, while maintaining excellent customer service and supporting efficient patient flow. Responsibilities • Perform high-volume venipuncture, completing 20–30 or more blood draws per day using primarily straight needles and butterfly needles when required., • Provide clear, courteous explanations of venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, such as urine or fecal collection, to help patients feel informed and at ease., • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocols to ensure sample integrity and accurate test results., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, verifying all information and ensuring correct patient and test identification., • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the specific test order and laboratory guidelines., • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy before processing., • Package specimens properly for transport, following all procedures to maintain specimen quality during transit., • Store specimen samples at the required temperature, place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, and follow all protocol-specific procedures for transport., • Update and maintain accurate patient information and specimen records in the appropriate systems or logs., • Perform decontamination and cleaning of work areas and equipment, and record maintenance data as required., • Understand and fully interpret physicians’ orders related to laboratory tests and specimen requirements., • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all internal safety and quality policies at all times., • Attend annual department trainings and other required educational sessions to maintain current knowledge of procedures and regulations., • Answer telephone calls professionally, provide laboratory results when appropriate, and respond to inquiries in a timely and accurate manner., • At least 2+ years of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or laboratory setting., • Proven experience performing high-volume blood draws, including 20–30 or more venipunctures per day., • Strong phlebotomy skills using straight needles and butterfly needles., • Demonstrated experience working with pediatric patients., • Demonstrated experience working with geriatric patients., • Ability to accurately collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures., • Ability to read and fully understand physicians’ orders and match them accurately to laboratory requisitions and specimen tubes., • Strong attention to detail to ensure 100% accuracy when checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts or orders., • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations related to laboratory safety, specimen handling, and infection control., • Effective customer service and communication skills to interact with patients and respond to inquiries by phone., • Pediatric and geriatric phlebotomy experience is preferred and highly valued., • Experience supporting a primarily Hispanic patient population and the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse patients., • Comfort working Saturdays, as some locations require Saturday availability., • Willingness to attend annual department trainings and participate in ongoing education. This role is based in a busy clinical or outpatient laboratory setting that handles approximately 120–130 patients per day. You will work primarily Monday through Friday, with some locations requiring Saturday shifts. The environment is fast paced, with periods of extended patient wait times, and requires consistent focus on efficiency, accuracy, and patient care. You will regularly interact with a diverse patient population, including many pediatric and geriatric patients, and work with standard phlebotomy equipment such as straight needles, butterfly needles, centrifuges, and specimen transport materials. The position is located at various sites throughout the region, and you will be expected to follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory protocols while maintaining a professional appearance appropriate for a clinical healthcare setting Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Jackson, NJ.
