Job Description Job Description COMPENSATION: Pay Rate: $26.00–$33.00 per hour This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. Additional information about our compensation scales is available at: SUMMARY: Performs a wide variety of skilled work including but not limited to inspection, maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings, building components and equipment in Aztec Shops facilities at San Diego State University (SDSU), Snapdragon Stadium and Imperial Valley Campus store; to include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, institutional food services kitchen equipment and corporate vehicles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DEPENDING ON LOCATION: NOTE: The duties listed below are examples of the variety and general nature of those performed by employees in this job description. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Provides supervision and direction to outside service vendors including diagnosing repairs, gathering estimates, facilitating work, and processing invoices. Will work with less experienced staff in a training and mentoring capacity when necessary. * Must have an ability to communicate clearly with staff and management alike, have exceptional organization and scheduling skills, and be able to work unsupervised. * Inspects, maintains and repairs plumbing, heating, water, sewer and drainage systems and related equipment. * Inspects, maintains and repairs electrical systems and components including 120v and 208v, electrical switches, outlets, lights, ventilation fans. * Inspects, maintains and repairs HVAC systems and components including exhaust fans, belts, filters, and fan motors. * Accomplishes building construction, alterations and repair work including drywall, carpentry, painting, and other miscellaneous construction tasks. * Maintains food service equipment such as fryers, slicers, ovens, grills, food processors, dish machines, thermopiles and infiltrate controls, relays, safety pilots, calibration and burners. * Completes miscellaneous skilled and semi-skilled tasks of an emergency nature. * Prepares purchase order and requisition/order supplies and materials. * Makes both written and sketch drawing records on work accomplished. * Works a flexible schedule including some week-end work, “on-call” as needed for after-hours emergencies. * Possesses the ability to work well with others as well as function independently. * Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, faculty, staff, and university personnel. * Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health. * Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The minimum requirements for applicants is at least four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to the journeyman level of skill in building and building systems repair; or any combination of training and experience as a mechanic that demonstrates achievement of journey level skill. It is preferred, but not required, that applicants have at least five years of experience in facility maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating, electrical, electrical and mechanical equipment, water and HVAC equipment and related installed equipment is required. Additional or supplemental experience in one or more of the following specific trades is highly preferred: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, metalworking, tile setting, painting and wall finishes, drywall, automotive/small engine repair. Possession of a Section 608 Certification for the purchase and handling of refrigerants is strongly preferred. Must have the ability to read and interpret basic building plans. This position may involve operating a company vehicle and/or golf cart on university or company property. As such, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and have not been issued more than three moving violations or have been responsible for more than three accidents (or any combination of more than three thereof during the past 12-month period). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to provide proof of driving eligibility upon hire. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings and specifications. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, governmental regulations, and technical/trade journals. Requires the ability to write reports and communicate effectively using telephonic, written, and electronic means. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Requires the ability to make arithmetic computations such as calculations of power consumption, amperage and voltage requirements. REASONING ABILITY: Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions. Must be able to multitask, prioritize work and pay attention to detail. Requires good analytical, quantitative skills and organizational skills. MANUAL DEXTERITY: Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of materials and tools used in miscellaneous building and repair work, equipment maintenance. PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds. to allow for normal and emergency communication between individuals and adequate perception of audible warning devices. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demand requirements are at levels for active work. Must be able to lift equipment components, parts and machinery. Frequent standing, bending, stooping and/or walking/moving is required. Requires the ability to handle or feel objects, building/electrical materials, or repair tools and materials and reach. Must be able to use body members to work, move and lift or carry heavy objects, equipment or materials up to 50 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral visions, distance vision, and color vision for reading and interpretation of instruction manuals, work orders, data plated and color coded wiring found in normal 110v 220v wiring (white, black, red and green). WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS Work is regularly performed in confined spaces such as tunnels, closets, shafts and trenches that may be dimly lit with exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes and airborne particles. There is some risk of occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and gasses, loud noises with exposure to varying weather conditions (including outdoors), dust and allergens and work temperatures, and extreme or flashing lights. This position will also be working at Snapdragon Stadium as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate on non-event days and moderate to loud on event days. This position requires on-site presence due to the scope of the duties, and it would not be eligible for remote work. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs. This may include opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.
