Job Description Position Summary: We are actively seeking a highly qualified Senior Safety Manager with a proven track record working directly with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The ideal candidate must have direct, hands-on experience managing safety for DEP projects involving water treatment plants, water tunnels, and reservoir infrastructure. This is not a general safety role, we require a candidate with deep, hands-on experience navigating DEP safety standards, protocols, documentation, and field compliance requirements, additionally to DDC, DOT, SCA, NYCHA, and Department of Building. This position may involves work on projects in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, so the ability and willingness to commute 100% to project sites is required. Key Responsibilities, but not limited to: • Serve as the lead safety authority for active construction projects, ensuring full compliance with DEP standards and all applicable safety regulations., • Manage safety operations on infrastructure projects involving water, sewer, and environmental systems regulated by the NYC DEP., • Maintain and enforce strict compliance with DEP project safety specifications, health requirements, environmental controls, and reporting procedures., • Interface directly with DEP and all NYS Agencies inspectors, safety officers, and regulatory personnel during audits, inspections, and reviews., • Lead internal safety audits and DEP-preparedness inspections on active project sites., • Review and submit DEP-required safety documentation, including HASPs, safety training logs, and incident reports., • Deliver project-specific safety training tailored to DEP requirements. Required Qualifications: • Minimum 15 years of construction safety and risk management experience, including at least 5-8 years working specifically on DEP-regulated projects., • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, or related field., • Knowledge of other NYC or NYS agencies (DOT, MTA, DDC, DEP, etc.), • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply health & safety specifications issued by New York City and State agencies—including NYC DEP, DDC, SCA, NYCHA, DOT, DOB, DASNY, MTA, and others—and to effectively respond to agency inquiries, audits, and on-site inspections. Familiarity with NYC Construction Codes, OSHA, and DEP environmental safety standards., • Valid safety certifications, including:, • OSHA 30-Hour (Construction), • Site Safety Manager License (NYC DOB), • Additional certifications such as CHST, CSP, or equivalent strongly preferred., • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage safety across diverse subcontractor teams., • Willingness to commute to sites across New Jersey and Connecticut as needed.
