Job Description - Vice President, Building Services Location: The Associated General Contractors of New York State (AGC NYS) is headquartered at 10 Airline Drive, Albany, NY 12205. Hybrid work in New York State possible depending on location and qualifications of successful candidate. Regular NYC and statewide travel required. Job Purpose: AGC NYS is New York’s leading statewide organization servicing the construction industry and the New York State Chapter of AGC of America. The Vice President of Building Services is a senior staff member responsible for advancing the interests of AGC NYS Building Division members statewide. This role serves as the principal strategic, technical, and policy liaison to public agencies, industry partners, and member firms, and plays a central role in shaping industry engagement, resolving complex contract and specification issues, and delivering high-value member services. This individual is the staff professional proficient in specification/contract issues and problem solving as they pertain to the work of the membership. This staff person is responsible for maintaining relationships with various State and Municipal (primarily NYC) construction and regulatory agencies, professional and other construction related organizations such as ESSA, AIA and ACEC, and with private/institutional construction users as appropriate. The position reports directly to the President/CEO, or their designee, and serves as a point of contact for the Building Board of Governors. Qualifications: The successful candidate shall possess the following qualifications: · Experience in the construction industry, public construction, or construction-related association, legal, or policy environment. · Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of construction contracts, specifications, risk allocation, and dispute/problem resolution. · Credibility with public construction agencies, design professionals, and industry stakeholders (NYC experience strongly preferred). · Proven ability to influence outcomes, build consensus, and represent an organization at a senior level. · Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (law, construction management, public policy, or related) a plus. · Able to swiftly grasp the essence of an issue and to work within the appropriate organization to affect the desired response, change, result and/or modification to the benefit of the membership. · Excellent written and communication skills are a must, as well as a positive, member-service focused personality and attitude. Responsibilities: 1. Board Responsibilities: a. Serve as the primary liaison for the Building Board of Governors, facilitate meetings and implement and report on association activities on behalf of the membership. b. Attend and report on building issues at meetings of the AGC NYS Board of Directors. 2. Committee and Task Force Responsibilities: a. Liaison or Individual Meetings with Leadership of: i. NYS OGS ii. DASNY iii. SUCF iv. NYS DOL v. NYS DEC/EFC vi. NYS Empire State Development vii. NYC SCA viii. NYC DDC ix. NYC DOB x. NYC DEP xi. MTA xii. OSC b. Legal Advisory Committee c. Risk Management and Insurance Committee 3. Other Responsibilities: a. Maintain membership connection across the state: i. Visit Building Membership throughout the State to learn the issues they contend with and convey important information about AGC NYS activities ii. Handle member inquiries and concerns on contract and other issues in a timely, professional, service-oriented manner. This will include authoring letters to designers and owners as needed. Ideally, AGC NYS staff functions in this regard as an extension of our member firms’ staff. iii. Schedule and lead regional meetings. iv. Develop, schedule and coordinate other regional and topic-specific meetings and webinars. v. Provide content and participate in AGC NYS Summer and Winter Meetings and Construction Industry Conference. 4. Help shape AGC NYS positions on major industry issues and contribute to AGC NYS strategic initiatives, including: i. Legislative and regulatory policy development ii. Industry modernization and emerging technologies iii. Risk, insurance, and contracting practices iv. Market and sector intelligence v. Statewide member growth and retention b. Support other AGC NYS staff in the following areas: i. Providing technical guidance on legislative/regulatory issues. ii. Environmental. iii. Emerging Technologies. iv. Safety. c. Participate with AGC of America’s Building Division and related national efforts. d. Provide regular, timely and high-quality written content for AGC NYS publications, including the bi-weekly electronic newsletter and Cornerstone magazine. e. Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the President & CEO. Salary: Commensurate with experience, anticipated salary range $150K–$180K base, with merit and performance based bonus. Compensation package includes competitive salary and generous fringe benefits commensurate with experience. References are required.
