Job Description The Low Voltage Systems Designer & Estimator is responsible for producing detailed technical designs and accurate cost estimates for ACG’s low-voltage, fiber optic, security, AV, and network infrastructure projects. This role transforms customer requirements, construction drawings, and site conditions into engineered layouts, material takeoffs, and comprehensive proposal packages. In addition, the position provides technical guidance and support to the estimating team, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to ACG design standards and pricing models. Key Responsibilities Design & Engineering • Create detailed system layouts, schematics, and device placement drawings for:, • Structured cabling systems (Cat6/Cat6a/Cat7), • Fiber optic backbone and distribution networks, • CCTV/IP surveillance and video analytics, • Access control and intrusion systems, • Wireless networks (Wi-Fi, point-to-point, point-to-multipoint), • Audio/video systems and conference room technology, • Develop cable pathway designs including conduits, trays, racks, and IDF/MDF layouts., • Utilize tools to generate professional design documents., • Review and interpret architectural, civil, electrical, and IT drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements., • Conduct site surveys to confirm field conditions, measurements, and installation feasibility., • Ensure all designs follow ACG standards, BICSI guidelines, NEC, and industry best practices. Plus: Estimating & Pre-Construction • Perform precise material takeoffs, including cable quantities, devices, hardware, and accessories., • Calculate labor hours based on scope, distance, complexity, and installation conditions., • Prepare detailed proposals, BOMs, cost summaries, alternates, and value-engineering options., • Review vendor quotes, equipment specifications, and subcontractor pricing., • Support the estimating team with technical analysis, clarifications, and design review., • Assist in developing and optimizing estimating templates, pricing tools, and design standards., • Participate in bid reviews to validate accuracy, risks, and completeness. Qualifications • 3+ years of experience in low-voltage, fiber optics, structured cabling, security, or similar industries., • Strong knowledge of BICSI standards, fiber types, splicing, and termination methods., • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and riser diagrams., • Experience creating CAD or Visio-based design drawings., • Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and bid management tools., • Understanding of network fundamentals (PoE, VLANs, IP addressing, switches)., • BICSI certification (TECH, INST1/2, or RCDD) is a plus., • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills., • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
