Job DescriptionThe Distribution Engineering I is responsible for the planning, design, and optimization of electrical distribution systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of power. This role involves developing engineering solutions for new construction, upgrades, and maintenance of distribution infrastructure, including overhead and underground systems. The Distribution Engineer will apply technical expertise to analyze system performance, ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards, and support the integration of emerging technologies such as renewable energy and smart grid systems. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, contractors, and utility partners, this role plays a key part in delivering high-quality engineering solutions that support customer needs and organizational objectives. What you will do: • Lead and execute designs for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4-69kV) by preparing field notes, drawings, specifications, and calculations for review and approval by a Senior Engineer as well as safely perform field walk downs to document existing conditions and generate material and labor specifications., • Apply client’s standards, guidelines, specifications, practices and procedures or appropriate industry standards in preparing design drawings as well as coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with all specifications, codes, and client requirements., • Review and perform quality assurance for design deliverables (internal and external design)., • Audit of design packages and construction jobs to ensure adherence of Project Engineering standards., • Ensure the integration of safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management practices into final products/designs/processes., • Regularly communicate and coordinate project activities with internal team members and begin to build relationships with clients - with some help and guidance from your supervisor. Who you are:, • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited institution in electrical engineering, • 0-2 years of experience in engineering design, • Knowledge of GIS, Microsoft Office, Google Earth, AutoCAD, TED, Pole Loading Analysis software is a plus, • Strong understanding of power systems, load flow, fault analysis, grounding, and protection., • Knowledge of overhead and underground distribution design, equipment sizing, and layout., • Familiarity with IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC, and local utility standards., • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or GIS-based design tools., • Experience with software such as CYME, ETAP, or Milsoft for distribution system studies., • Understanding of distributed energy resources (DERs), energy storage, and grid modernization., • Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, budgets, and deliverables., • Knowledge of system protection, reliability engineering, and compliance with safety protocols., • Ability to diagnose system issues and develop effective solutions., • Clear written and verbal communication for reports, presentations, and stakeholder collaboration., • Experience working with cross-functional teams, contractors, and utility partners., • Ability to apply engineering principles to both routine projects and complex, evolving energy systems., • Ensuring accuracy in technical calculations, drawings, and documentation., • Staying current with emerging technologies, renewable integration, and regulatory changes.
