POSITION DESCRIPTION HGL is currently seeking an experienced Environmental/Civil Engineer to support our Ballston Lake, NY office and projects in surrounding states. The Engineer will provide environmental and/or civil engineering, remediation, and construction services support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients. This position has an immediate need to support field engineering oversight during remedial construction at a project site in Vermont. This position will also be responsible for leading technical execution in design/implementation of feasibility studies, treatability studies, and civil and remedial system design. Projects may include in-situ thermal treatment, contaminated soil and sediment removal, groundwater treatment, and operation and maintenance. Work will be on-site in Vershire, VT from April through November, and then either working from the HGL office in Ballston Lake NY, or a home office near Boston, MA or Vershire, VT. Responsibilities/Duties WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING The person hired for this role will be responsible for: • Construction oversight duties will include oversight of civil and environmental aspects related to a remediation construction project including soil and groundwater removal, treatment and disposal., • Preparation of daily quality reports, request for design clarification and/or design changes., • Review of as-built information to confirm conformance to plans and specifications., • Preparation of remediation work plans, remedial designs, and project deliverables., • Supervising and supporting environmental and engineering projects and tasks, involving the characterization and remediation of impacted soil, sediment, and groundwater., • Manage and provide technical support, and client/regulatory interaction during investigation, design, remediation implementation, and completion (as-built) project phases., • Analyzing environmental data and preparing reports for environmental characterization and remediation projects., • Preparation of multiple project documents including RD/RA Workplans, Basis of Design, and Construction Completion Reports., • Managing project schedules and budgets. Required Skills WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role: • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field., • 6+ years’ experience in the civil/environmental engineering fields., • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, internal and external stakeholders, including technical presentations at client and regulatory meetings., • Strong writing skills with prior experience directing and contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memorandums, and work plans., • Coordination of field subcontractors for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities. The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, EPA, or RCRA project/site., • Professional Engineering registration with ability to obtain professional license within 1-2 years of hire., • OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Preferred Skills WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required • Experience working on U.S. federal contracts., • Remedial construction oversight experience involving environmental and civil engineering aspects., • Experience with investigation and remediation of various contaminants of concern including volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, petroleum, PFAS, and PCBs., • Preparation of engineering technical specifications and designs., • M.S. degree in Engineering with a focus in Environmental/Civil Engineering or related field. The salary range for this position ranges from $71,868 - $107,801.
