Job Description SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, INC. Executive Director Job Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for the overall coordination of business practices and quality assurance, including financial management, implementation of program strategy, and organizational administration. Direct the organization and implementation of business systems to ensure quality child care and development services are available to all families and children in Fresno County. Monitor and analyze funding streams and ensure the agency meets established compliance requirements as presented by the California Department of Social Services. This position will oversee and provide leadership to agency community-based programs and will work to establish ongoing community focused relationships. Supervisory Responsibilities: · Supervise all agency Departments, Supervisors, and Administrative Staff · Exempt employee Essential Job Functions: 1. Maintain regular and reliable attendance to ensure timely and consistent service delivery to the families we serve., 2. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, community and state partners, to ensure efforts meet changing needs and opportunities in the community and the agency., 3. Direct and coordinate the implementation of guidelines and policies set for by CDSS., 4. Represent the agency at various related community and state activities such as conferences, workshops, or legislative testimonies., 5. Prepare and submit state applications, reports and other materials for the agency., 6. Monitor the agency’s funding levels and obtain additional funding sources, as necessary., 7. Encourage staff participation in councils and/or committees concerned with the best interests of young children and their families., 8. Provide executive leadership for the Agency’s public presence, ensuring community awareness, mission-aligned messaging, and appropriate visibility across digital platforms. 9. Build personal relationships with local leaders, stakeholders, and families to further enhance the agency’s culture of community connection., 10. Act as the arbitrator and/or hearing officer for complaints from the public., 11. Serve on various advisory boards with governmental, community and professional organizations that focus on children’s issues., 12. Develop ties and provide leadership to advocacy efforts of the multiple child care coalitions in California. 13. Continually collaborate with the Administrative Team and Board of Directors to maintain and/or increase government, grant and foundation funding., 14. Provide the Board of Directors with clear information to help it reach sound decisions and establish policies., 15. Report to Board the progress toward organizational objectives, financial status of the organization and other issues of concern., 16. Partner with the Board to develop and implement a strategic plan with measurable outcomes and milestones to ensure effective operations that achieve the overall mission and vision of the organization., 17. Oversee and report on the organization's outcomes to the Board of Directors; provide reports and updates on staff, current work, project timelines, and organizational progress., 18. Develop ongoing goals for the Agency in collaboration with Administrative Team., 19. Plan, develop, and supervise implementation of Agency programs to achieve organizational goals and successfully fulfill mission statement in an efficient and cost-effective manner., 20. Direct and empower the Administrative Team, thereby ensuring all staff have clear direction on their assignments and duties., 21. Ensure employee performance evaluations, merit pay rate/increases, disciplinary actions and terminations are conducted fairly, consistently and in compliance with Agency policies and all state and federal laws., 22. The Executive Director must independently plan, organize and prioritize work following established procedures and guidelines; must have the ability to work flexible days as work may include evenings, overnights and weekends. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: • High skill level in organizing, planning, and implementation of administrative procedures., • Commitment to working with the Board of Directors in true partnership. 3. Strategic thinker with a vision for the future of child care access, family and child care support, and Fresno County., 4. The ability to be a strategic planner with an equity lens who is able to reach a diverse community with programs and services., 5. Communicate effectively with child care providers, parents and agency/business representatives., 6. Through strategic planning and implementation, ability to see big picture, and implement program and agencywide systems to improve service to Fresno County., 7. Ability to exert a dynamic influence on staff, Board, clients and community to further the goals of the agency., 8. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build trust and work effectively with diverse client populations., 9. Ability to be flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines and coordinate day-to-day Agency operations. • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including active listening, curiosity, and the ability to translate insights and data into clear, persuasive, and compelling messages., • Adaptable and creative in leading the agency through organizational growth., • Results-focused orientation paired with a growth mindset., • Comfort making difficult decisions and effectively articulating the rationale., • Proficient in computer-based information systems. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: · Master’s degree in Child Development or related field preferred; Bachelor’s Degree Required. · Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the non-profit sector, including at least 2 years in an executive or senior leadership position within a medium or large, complex organization. · Executive leadership experience -- has been part of an executive leadership team, has worked with a board of directors, has managed budgets, understands the drivers of organizational financial performance, strategic planning and implementation experience. · Knowledge of child care and development systems and programs · Progressive senior leadership role in a non-profit agency preferred. · Familiarity with the early care and education field, including state licensing requirements. · Experienced and comfortable working with diverse, income restricted communities, and managing diverse staff. · Experience guiding an organization through a time of organizational growth, professionalization, and transformation. · Experience working with government agencies and managing government contracts, establishing positive partnerships, fulfilling program requirements, and meeting performance and information reporting needs. Note: Depending on the organizational needs, the ability to type 35 words or more per minute may be required. Salary Range: $135,000 – $251,000/ Annually Travel Requirement: · When applicable, travel and attend out-of-area meetings and community-based events as required. · Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. business hours. · Meet and maintain Supportive Services, Inc. hiring requirements which include: o Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ clearance. o Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License to represent the agency at community-based activities. o Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency. Special Requirements: · Possession of a valid California driver’s license, access to a reliable motor vehicle, and proof of current automobile liability insurance; ability to travel within Fresno County as required. · Successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) criminal background clearance prior to the first day of employment.
