Job Description Director, Individual Giving GSGNY Background The Girl Scouts of Greater New York (GSGNY) is a leading youth development organization serving 16,000 girls ages 5–18 each year. Our mission is to ensure that every girl across New York City can develop the courage, confidence, and character needed to thrive. GSGNY delivers empowering programs in nearly every NYC zip code, from traditional troop experiences to STEM and robotics, leadership development, and meaningful community service. We also support unhoused girls living in shelters across the city and send 5,000 girls each summer to our beautiful camp in upstate New York. Through our iconic Cookie Program, Girl Scouts earn money for troop activities while building critical financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills. Position Description As part of a six-person Advancement team, the Director, Individual Giving, is the operational leader of Individual Giving at the Girl Scouts of Greater New York. This role reports directly to the CDO and is charged with growing existing individual and major gifts programs by acting as the project manager for this fundraising line, in addition to carrying a personal portfolio of donors and prospects. Working in collaboration with the CDO, and with the assistance of a Development Associate, the Director will plan, execute, and oversee activities for the solicitation of individual donors, including prospect identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition. The position will also support the CEO, CDO, and board leadership in managing their individual donor portfolios. The Director, Individual Giving must be a fundraising professional who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized, bold, collaborative, and creative, who embodies the values of Girl Scouting. The ideal candidate will be a goal-oriented professional who excels at engaging with donors and seamlessly tracking cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities. Key Responsibilities Strategy, Leadership & Program Management • In partnership with the CDO, develop and implement a multi-year individual giving strategy aligned with organizational strategic priorities and revenue goals., • Serve as the project manager for the individual giving fundraising line, ensuring alignment across campaigns, donor segments, events, and stewardship activities., • Track and regularly review individual giving projections, KPIs, and progress toward revenue targets; proactively recommend course corrections as needed., • Prepare and contribute to Advancement-related materials for senior leadership, committees, and the Board of Directors., • Supervise and mentor the Development Associate, providing direction, coaching, and performance feedback., • Manage the major gifts pipeline, including Board giving, using a structured moves management approach., • Maintain a live comprehensive moves management reference document/report tracking donor strategy, engagement, and next steps that can be shared weekly., • Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors through in-person, virtual, and written communications, including complex and multi-year asks., • Provide strategic guidance and tactical support to the CEO, CDO, and Board members in their fundraising efforts, including donor research, meeting preparation, solicitation strategies, and follow-up., • Lead strategy and engagement for key individual donor constituencies with a focus on retention, upgrade, and major gift identification, including: our $1,000+ annual donors, our alumni and emerging professionals network and the organization’s planned giving and legacy program., • Manage and grow approximately six annual Advancement-hosted donor cultivation events, both locally in NYC at Girl Scout Camp Kaufmann in Holmes, NY., • Support peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, including the GSGNY Marathon team., • Collaborate with program staff to coordinate donor site visits, program invitations, and volunteer engagement opportunities., • Partner with relevant departments to cultivate Independent School troop parents, volunteers, and affiliated communities., • Track individual giving revenue and expenses; prepare regular reports for senior leadership and the Board., • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of all donor interactions, solicitations, and stewardship activities in Raiser’s Edge NXT., • Maintain compliance with ethical fundraising standards, donor intent, and organizational policies., • Directly supervise the Development Associate, providing clear priorities, ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support., • Ensure the Development Associate maintains a clean, accurate, and up-to-date donor database, including timely entry of gifts, pledges, donor interactions, and moves management actions in Raiser’s Edge NXT., • Oversee and enforce systems and workflows that ensure timely, accurate donor acknowledgments and tax receipts, in compliance with IRS requirements, organizational policies, and donor expectations., • Establish and monitor standards for data integrity, documentation, filing, and gift processing procedures; regularly review records for accuracy and completeness., • Partner with the Development Associate to improve and streamline development operations, including acknowledgment templates, reporting processes, and stewardship tracking., • Collaborate with Finance and Advancement leadership to ensure reconciliation of gifts and alignment between fundraising records and financial reporting., • Bachelor’s degree required., • 4–6 years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts., • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or people management experience., • Proven experience engaging high-net-worth individuals and leading donor meetings, including making direct asks., • Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders., • Excellent written communication skills, including experience developing fundraising campaigns, proposals, and donor communications., • High level of discretion, sound judgment, and strong verbal and listening skills., • Demonstrated organizational, project management, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently., • Strong sense of accountability, attention to process, and commitment to excellence., • Proficiency with donor databases and prospect tracking systems; Raiser’s Edge experience strongly preferred., • Annual Salary $85,000 – $115,000 (Depending on experience), • Comprehensive benefits including options for health, dental & vision coverage, Flexible Spending Account/FSA, commuter benefits, 403(b) retirement savings plan with employer match, and generous PTO.
