Job Description Transportation Planning Practice Lead Crawford, Murphy & Tilly is seeking an experienced leader in transportation and urban planning to join our growing surface transportation team. This is not a remote position. We are a fast-growing firm with 500+ employees across 25 offices and in 10 states, serving clients through our four primary business groups: • Aviation, • Surface Transportation, • Water Resources, • Building & Site Services As a Transportation Planning Practice Lead, you'll play a key role in leading the planning practice within our Surface Transportation team, while providing the opportunity to experience new challenges in a dynamic environment. Here’s what you’ll do: • Act as the external facing lead for the practice, • Oversee the work of a group of planners in the surface transportation unit, • Develop and implement staffing and revenue growth plans for the transportation planning practice., • Mentor planning staff and maintain/grow their professional development, • Manage single-discipline projects within the planning practice, particularly those that are moderate to complex, • Support engineering-related projects requiring upfront planning work, and at times manage them through the concept phase, • Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets, • Responsible for project task management and adherence to project deadlines, budget, and scope, • Responsible for project finances: proper accounting of job costs, efficient and accurate invoice preparation, and prompt payment of outstanding accounts, • Ability to grow, direct and review the work of project team members, coordinate with other groups, units and consultants for project support, • Identify, monitor, and evaluate potential risks and claims, • Support business development efforts with the ability to secure work with existing clients and help procure work with new clients, • Prepare and lead or assist in developing proposals and contracts, • Confirm terms of contract are met and secure supplemental agreements as required, • Coordinate staff for project site visits and other field work as necessary, while participating in site visits and field work when required, • Conduct field investigations to analyze factors affecting community development, redevelopment and address community decline, • Confirm compliance with environmental, safety, or other governmental regulations, • Provide feedback to project team in a timely manner, • Participate in one-on-one meetings and career planning sessions with junior employees and provide input to employee evaluations when requested, • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, or related discipline, • 10 years' minimum experience in planning, transportation planning or community development, • Expert knowledge and understanding of the project development process, • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS, Sketch Up, Adobe Suite or other technical software, • Expert knowledge in planning techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical deliverables, • Strong ability to work with engineers, landscape architects and economic development specialists, • Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards, • Knowledge of quality assurance procedures, • Familiarity with assessing and applying zoning codes; coordination with our traffic team on transportation planning work, • Proficient managerial skills to work and lead in a team environment while mentoring staff, • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and PDF Software, • Ability to translate complex technical data into public facing formats, • Ability to manage multiple high-volume assignments on a variety of projects, work in an environment to learn quickly and take initiative, • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement solutions, • Strong technical, written, and oral communication skills, • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills, • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks, • Demonstrated responsiveness, professionalism, and teamwork Ideally, you will also have: • AICP certified, • Solid experience with GIS Physical Requirements: Physical demands very depending on the specific nature of assigned projects. The expected compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000 annually. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including but not limited to individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location.
