American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Sacramento, California. • Specialty: Med Surg, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 01/06/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neurocare position requiring a CA RN license and strong neuro patient care skills. • Work in a 36-bed Med Acute/Neurocare unit within an acute care hospital, • Primary patient population includes stroke, other neurological disorders, epilepsy, overflow med/surg, overflow COVID, and toxicology patients such as those experiencing ETOH withdrawals or overdoses, • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, • RNs are responsible for titrating drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, Argatroban, and Protonix, • Use of Cerner EMR is required, • RNs must read and interpret their own EKGs, with support from tele/monitor techs, • RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators when needed; RT staff provide support and vent training is available as necessary, • Shifts are 12 hours, starting at 0700 or 1900, with every other weekend required, • Self-scheduling with manager oversight to balance coverage, • First to float, with required floating to all MS/Tele units within the Sacramento region as needed, • Navy scrubs required with navy, white, or black undershirts and navy scrub jackets optional, • Responsibilities include providing comprehensive neuro-focused nursing care, including EKG monitoring and titration of complex drips, • Travelers will receive 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation and training on vents if necessary, • Must rotate for holiday coverage with core staff, • RNs will float to other medical-surgical and telemetry units as census dictates across the Sacramento region, • Charge nurse may take patient assignments as needed, • Nurse aides are available for support, with a ratio of 1:18, • No call or standby requirements for this assignment, • Passing sterile technique testing is required on the first day of orientation, • First-time travelers will be considered, • If Relias Dysrhythmia and/or sterile technique exam is failed twice, candidate will be ineligible for assignments in the CommonSpirit Sacramento region for six months, • Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted, • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, • Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience required, • Prior experience caring for neuro patients, including stroke and other neurological disorders, is required, • Experience with titrating cardiac and neuro-related drips required, • Ability to read and interpret EKGs independently, • Experience with Cerner EMR required, • Must provide 2 professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, • Copy of valid driver's license required for consideration, • Must complete and pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with up to two attempts allowed (results must show number of attempts taken), • Cannot have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities within the past year, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy, • Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-640843.
