Summary Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering project within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. This is a transitional position for someone with the required field experience and/or education to gain project engineering experience in a supervised manner prior to advancing into Project Engineer role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. · Designs major portions of an assigned project · Solves complex problems and calculations, using engineering formulas and skills · Evaluates research by others and writes reports · Assists the Project Engineer in the preparation of proposal estimates of time and expenses required to complete the project · Assists the Project Engineer in scheduling staffing requirements for field projects · Assists the Project Engineer in supervising and instructing, as needed, the responsibilities of field personnel on projects assigned to them · Plans and implements engineering programs, including defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements, per customer requirements · Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project · Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly · Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget · Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers · Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages · Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing · Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications · Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems · Directs integration of technical activities · Evaluates and presents changes for design, specifications, drawing releases, reports, etc. to the Project Engineer and /or Project manager for approval · Prepares interim and completion project reports · Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met · Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management · Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project · Supervises field work and performs field work when needed · Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel · Confers with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority · Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget · Supervises project personnel and oversees their daily activities to ensure it is correct and complete · Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required · Prepares project reports for management, client, or others · Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems · Coordinates project activities with government regulatory or other governmental agencies · Identifies the potential for new projects and seeks opportunities to promote the company’s services on an ongoing basis · Travels 25% of the time which may be out of state Supervisory Responsibilities This job has some supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience A minimum of 5-8 years of field and/or related experience where a PE license counts towards that related experience, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and demonstrates ability to meet the requirements of the job as set forth in this description. Previous construction experience is preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or have the ability to become licensed within 6 months of being in this position. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or have the ability to become licensed within 6 months of being in this position Valid Driver’s License and possess reliable transportation to access job sites Language Skills Proficient in communicating both verbal and written in the English language. Proficient in communicating both verbal and written in the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills Proficient or familiarity with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, NitroPro, GSLOPE, KeyWall, Rocscience, MS Word, Excel, Adobe. Tools/Equipment Position requires ability to use tools such as a lump hammer, shovel, hand auger, Nuclear Density Gauge. Approximately 25% of the work is conducted outdoors. Worker must be able to walk frequently on uneven hard and soft ground/terrain in all types of weather conditions to include cold, hot rain, snow, ice, etc. Employees working in the field may also be exposed to sun, wind, insects, plants, animals, etc. As a result, appropriate clothing for outdoor work, work boots, safety glasses, hard hat, safety vest is required while working in the field. Compensation: Base salary $90,000–$120,000, + mileage reimbursement, benefits, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, professional development opportunities, 401(k), and bonus potential.
