POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Fitness Instructor, under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director, is responsible for conducting fitness classes and engaging youth ages 6-14 years in a safe and informative environment while adhering to the YMCA of the USA’s physical activity guidelines for youth. The Youth Fitness Instructor combines physical activity, healthy living, socialization and play into the curriculum. ???? We're seeking an instructor to lead our Homeschool Fitness classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Plan, develop, adapt, and teach programming to youth, maintaining safe, effective, modified, and accessible routines for all participants, • Welcome all families to the facility, keep running records of participant attendance, and motivate participants to perform their best during programming., • Observe participants, evaluate individual and group needs and abilities, and provide meaningful feedback on their performance and progress, • Demonstrate through action and interaction with staff, YMCA members and the public, the Four Character Development Principles of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility., • Interpret and communicates the Mission, objectives, and programs to Members and program participants through YMCA activities, trainings, fundraising, and staff meetings, • Set-up and tear down equipment daily, checking all equipment for safety and reporting any deficiencies to the director., • Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with families about their child’s participation in activities, behaviors, and related topics, connecting families to the YMCA., • Knows, reviews, and applies all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies and procedures, responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol QUALIFICATIONS: • Completion of two years of college or two years of work experience in a related field required., • Studying Physical Education or fitness field preferred., • Minimum of one year of experience working with youth in a variety of exercise formats and experience leading small and large groups., • At least 18 years of age, • Demonstrate knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, injury prevention techniques, and exercise modifications., • Any nationally recognized Fitness Instructor or Personal Fitness Instructor certification preferred, • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
