Job DescriptionSalary: The Coach Across America Recreational Coach plays a vital role in creating dynamic, safe, and inclusive after-school and summer programs. This position is responsible for planning, leading, and supervising engaging recreational activities, including sports, games, and creative play, that promote physical activity, skill development, teamwork, and positive social interactions for participants of various ages and abilities. The coach fosters a fun, supportive, and enriching environment, ensuring the well-being and positive experience of all program attendees. Coach Hours: (Mon-Fri 2pm-8:30pm) (One Saturday per Month: 9am-2pm) Reports to: Lead Recreation and Wellness Coordinator POSITION SUMMARY The Recreational Coach plays a vital role in creating dynamic, safe, and inclusive after-school and summer programs. The coach fosters a fun, supportive, and enriching environment, ensuring the well-being and positive experience of all program attendees. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Activity Facilitation: Leading a variety of sports, games, and creative play activities tailored to different age groups and skill levels, • Model and teach students to honor the game/sport or activity., • Teach and Instruct students in health, nutrition, physical activity, recreation and recess., • Teach the elements of ROOTSRespect for Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, and oneself., • Teaching fundamental skills in various activities, promoting good sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition, and encouraging participation and effort from all children regardless of their athletic ability., • Use encouragement and positive reinforcement to motivate students., • Utilize the 4:1 Rule of Thumb Ratio of 5 positives reinforcements to each criticism/correction., • Ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all participants by maintaining a secure environment, supervising activities closely, and implementing appropriate rules and procedures., • Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking., • Prepare lesson plans for all instructional classes., • Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations., • Provide motivation talks on the history and purpose of the game/sport or activity., • Maintains the equipment, storage room and gym in an orderly fashion., • Ensures that all equipment and building are secure., • Ensure that all equipment and recreational items are working properly., • Seizes teachable moments to talk with students about honoring the game/sport or activity., • Implementing effective behavior management strategies to maintain order and address conflicts constructively, while upholding program rules., • Assist Administratively & Programmatically. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS) & MEASURABLE OUTCOMES Student Participation & Exploration • Metric: Percentage of students actively participating in new activities or demonstrating interest in new concepts introduced., • Metric: Average student satisfaction rating on program activities and support., • Metric: Percentage of team meetings attended., • Metric: Completeness, clarity, and effectiveness of lesson plans in achieving stated objectives., • Metric: Orderliness and operational status of equipment, storage room, and gym., • Metric: Number of serious safety incidents or near-misses during activities., • Metric: Number of documented instances of adherence to OYC policies and procedures., • Metric: Percentage of required data (e.g., attendance, applications, surveys, reports, assessment documents) submitted on time., • Competency: The ability to do something successfully or efficiently., • Humility: A modest or low view of ones own importance; humbleness., • Accountability: Responsibility; Being accountable., • Adaptability: The quality of being able to adjust to new conditions., • Intentionality: Being deliberate or purposeful. O Outcome-driven with a heart for impact. • QUALIFICATIONS, • Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or G.E.D., • 1 to 3 years experience working within youth programs., • Basic computer skills / Microsoft Office., • Ability to be flexible with hours on Saturday, Sunday weekends if needed., • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation., • Must pass drug screening and Level 2 background fingerprint.
