Position Summary: The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the ownership and operations of a large-scale virtualized server environment supporting business-critical operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day administration, performance, availability, and lifecycle management. This is a hands-on senior contributor role with significant ownership and autonomy. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in Windows Server, Linux, Hyper-V, and Server Infrastructure with a strong operational discipline, a security conscious mindset, and the judgement to make sound architectural decisions in a production environment. Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Own the end-to-end administration of a large Hyper-V environment supporting both Windows and Linux virtual machines across multiple clustered hosts., • Manage Hyper-V failover clusters, including Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), live migration, quick migration, and Hyper-V Replica for disaster recovery., • Plan and execute capacity, ensuring host resources (CPU, memory, storage, network) are right-sized; identify and resolve resource contention proactively., • Build and maintain VM templates, golden images, and provisioning workflows to enable consistent, repeatable VM deployments., • Perform hypervisor patching, host upgrades, and cluster maintenance with minimal disruption to production workloads., • Administer Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022, 2025) across the VM fleet, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Certificate Services., • Administer Linux servers (RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu, or equivalent distributions) running alongside the Windows fleet., • Manage package updates, kernel patching, SSH access, system services (systemd), and standard Linux network and storage configuration., • Integrate Linux systems with Active Directory where applicable; manage authentication via SSSD, Kerberos, or LDAP., • Write shell scripts (Bash) and basic Python where appropriate to automate routine administration tasks., • Manage patching cadence, WSUS/SCCM or equivalent patch tooling, and out-of-band emergency patching for critical vulnerabilities., • Troubleshoot performance, application compatibility, and OS-level issues; perform root cause analysis and document remediation., • Own the physical server lifecycle: specification, procurement input, racking and stacking, firmware management, decommissioning, and asset tracking., • Build and tune monitoring and alerting (e.g., SolarWinds, OpManager etc.) to ensure proactive detection of capacity, performance, and availability issues., • Maintain detailed runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational documentation; contribute to change management and configuration management discipline., • Participate in on-call rotation (at a Tier IV role) for high-severity infrastructure incidents; lead incident response and post-incident reviews for systems within scope. Knowledge, Skills, abilities, and Other Personal Characteristics: • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Masters preferred., • MCSE preferred., • 8-10 years of progressive system & server administration and engineering experience., • Advanced troubleshooting capabilities in relevant OT infrastructure/architectures., • Program or multiple-project management experience., • Experience in energy, utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, or other critical infrastructure environments., • Familiarity with IT/OT convergence concepts and the operational discipline required to support systems adjacent to industrial control environments., • Experience supporting environments subject to regulatory or compliance frameworks (NERC CIP, ISA/IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82, SOC 2, or equivalent)., • Knowledge of the energy industry (oil, gas, electric, renewable)., • Strong communication skills, particularly in conveying written technical information., • Ability to work as part of a team., • Able to learn and apply new technical information quickly., • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships, customer service orientated., • Strong organization and dependable time management skills., • Able to be responsive to critical operating situations., • Be highly organized and capable of concurrently managing multiple projects and team members. Work Environment: The employee will work in an office environment, utilizing standard office and computing equipment. At times, the employee may be required to visit an operational location that requires following safety and PPE, such as FR clothing, hard hat, boots. Less than 25% travel. Standard work hours with after-hours support/on-call for crisis support on a set schedule. The employee is required to be present in the EverLine Ellington office full-time for the first 6months of employment. The employee may then shift to 2 days onsite, 3 days working remotely. If working remotely, the employee will be required to support video teleconferencing when applicable, as well as attend teleconference meetings originating in other time zones, which may occur outside normal working hours. The employee will interface with remote employees, requiring reliance on email and phone communications, as well as ability to maintain productivity while working autonomously.
