Job DescriptionJob Title: Shipping Clerk Job Description The Shipping Clerk oversees daily shipping activities in a warehouse and production environment, ensuring that all outgoing domestic and international shipments are accurate, properly documented, and processed on time. This role uses an ERP/MRP system, networked carrier systems, and standard operating procedures to pick, pack, ship, and invoice orders while maintaining accurate inventory and shipping records. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and effective coordination with carriers, internal teams, and consignees. Responsibilities • Review IFS system reports daily to determine stock inventory items that need to be picked and shipped., • Prepare pick lists and delivery notes for daily shipments, identifying and coordinating the correction of any errors., • Verify that orders and shipping quantities match picking documents through careful audit of all related paperwork., • Assemble packaging materials and package merchandise according to instructions in preparation for shipment., • Use networked shipping systems for UPS, FedEx, and other carriers to process ground and freight shipments., • Enter data for domestic and international shipments into the IFS system and into the shipping systems of commercial freight carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL., • Prepare export documentation and related paperwork required for international shipments., • Notify consignees and relevant offices or agents with shipment information as needed., • Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to schedule pick-up of goods and ensure timely collection., • Ensure that drivers depart with all appropriate paperwork and documentation for each shipment., • Initiate, answer, and document tracer inquiries via email and fax when requested, and follow through to resolution., • Confirm the physical shipment of goods and facilitate tracking of packages upon request., • Process daily invoices in the IFS system to accurately reflect shipped orders., • Work with the supervisor to ensure all outbound freight complies with warehouse operations and procedures., • Coordinate with the Customer Service team to resolve shipping instructions or special customer requests when required., • Ensure the accuracy of all shipping documents by strictly following standard operating procedures., • Gather, enter into IFS and internal networks, and maintain all data and records related to shipping activities., • Monitor packaging material supplies and request additional materials as needed to support uninterrupted operations., • Complete required management reports related to shipping activities and performance., • Assist with or independently complete special projects at the discretion of the Manager., • Work independently to fill shop orders using daily orders in the system, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment., • Support inventory control and cycle counting activities as part of overall warehouse accuracy.Essential Skills, • At least 5 years of experience working in a warehouse environment using ERP or MRP systems., • At least 2 years of inventory control or cycle count experience., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Experience utilizing an MRP system; IFS experience is preferred., • Experience with computerized dispatch shipping systems such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL., • Previous shipping experience in a warehouse or production setting is preferred., • Ability to work independently and accurately fill orders using daily system-generated orders., • Qualified forklift driver with the ability to safely operate material handling equipment., • Proficiency with PC computers, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel., • Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills., • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handle frequent interruptions, and manage shifting priorities., • Strong basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to compute rates, ratios, and percentages., • Ability to communicate fluently in English., • Demonstrated self-motivation, self-discipline, and a positive, flexible attitude., • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently and maintain accurate records.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience specifically with the IFS system is a plus., • Prior experience in a small company or small department where team members wear multiple hats is beneficial., • Comfort working with export documentation and international shipping processes., • Ability to quickly learn and follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines., • Willingness to assist with special projects and take on additional responsibilities as needed.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in an air-conditioned facility within a small company of approximately 25 employees, with a shipping department of about three team members. The position primarily operates in the production and warehouse areas, where noise levels can range from heavy machining to minimal noise. There may be exposure to fumes from chemicals, paints, and assembly glues in manufacturing areas, with safety information available in departmental MSDS documentation. The work is physically demanding and involves frequent standing, walking, sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and climbing stairs, as well as pushing and lifting or carrying boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Average vision and hearing are necessary to perform the job safely and effectively. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional hours required as needed to meet operational demands. You will work with ERP/MRP software (including IFS), networked shipping systems (UPS, FedEx, DHL), and standard office applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77041. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
