Job DescriptionSalary: $23.00 base rate Job Title: CLERK: EVIDENCE TECHNICIAN Department: Police Reports To: Chief of Police Directs Work Of: NA FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date(s): January 20, 2026 EEO-4 Classification: Administrative Support Normal Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Normal Work Days: Monday through Friday Education/Experience: This job requires a High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of related experience and/or training in a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other requirements include a valid drivers license and a safe driving record. Candidate must successfully pass an extensive background investigation. Requires the ability to obtain the International Association of Property and Evidence (IAPE) certification within one (1) year of employment. Position Summary: The Evidence Clerk is responsible for the receipt, documentation, storage, security, and disposition of evidence and property maintained by the Police Department. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and accuracy. The Evidence Clerk supports officers, investigators, and administrative staff by maintaining accurate records and ensuring the integrity of the chain of custody. Work is performed under the general direction of a Police Commander and evaluated based on accuracy, reliability, compliance, and service quality. The position requires the ability to manage data effectively, ensure accurate reporting and documentation, and maintain the room and its contents in good condition and in an organized manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties listed below are illustrative of the work performed and are not all-inclusive: • Receive, catalog, store, secure, release, and dispose of evidence and found property in accordance with department policies and legal requirements., • Maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation and update evidence management systems timely and accurately., • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and professional standards within evidence storage areas., • Utilize computer systems to enter, retrieve, and update data, including CAD, ARIES, New World Database, and other software., • Prepare reports, memos, email correspondence, inventory logs, and documentation for court or administrative purposes., • Communicate professionally with officers, investigators, courts, attorneys, and members of the public within approved authority., • Assist with periodic audits and inspections of evidence rooms to ensure compliance with departmental procedures and state/federal standards., • Follow proper handling protocols for biological samples, hazardous materials, weapons, narcotics, and other sensitive items., • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and ensure secure storage of all property., • Respond to internal and external information requests as authorized., • Perform other related duties as assigned. Computer Skills • Proficient in or able to learn: Microsoft Outlook, Internet browsers, CAD, ARIES, New World Database, Microsoft Excel, and other department software.
