Job Description This role has a hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days a week in our NYC office). Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies. The Manager, Risk and Insurance is responsible for managing all aspects of Convergent’s insurance and enterprise risk management programs across project development, construction, and operational phases. This role oversees property, casualty, and liability insurance, coordinates closely with third-party insurance brokers and advisors, and partners with internal stakeholders to ensure insurance compliance with project financing, tax equity, and contractual requirements. The Manager, Risk and Insurance also collaborates with the Capital Markets department on tax credit and specialty insurance policies, oversees the company’s letter of credit portfolio, and maintains a structured review of off taker and key counterparty credit risk. Additionally, this role is a core member of Convergent’s Risk Committee, proactively identifying, monitoring, and managing enterprise-level risks including financial, operational, regulatory, tax, and health & safety risks. This is an individual contributor role and therefore does not have any direct reports but will exercise mentorship responsibilities and provide leadership, guidance, and influence to the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis. What You’ll Do Project Insurance Policies (50%) oManage insurance programs for projects across development, construction, and operations. oEnsure alignment of insurance coverage with project-level contracts, financing documents, debt agreements, and tax equity requirements. oCoordinate placement, renewal, and endorsement of construction and operational insurance policies. oIncidents and claims management Corporate Insurance Policies (15%) oOversee all corporate-level insurance programs. oLead annual insurance renewals in coordination with brokers and advisors. oEnsure policies remain cost-effective, comprehensive, and aligned with enterprise risk profile. Letters of Credit (15%) oOversee the company’s letter of credit portfolio. oCoordinate issuance, renewals, draws, and releases with banks and internal stakeholders. oMonitor exposure, utilization, and compliance with financial agreements. Credit Risk Management (10%) oReview, assess, and maintain a database of off taker and counterparty credit risks. oSupport internal decision-making related to contract counterparties and risk mitigation strategies. Enterprise and Corporate Risk Management (5%) oServe as a key member of the Risk Committee. oIdentify, monitor, and manage key risks including financial, operational, regulatory, tax, and health & safety. Support development and enhancement of risk governance practices. Leadership (5%) oHold check-ins with the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis, providing guidance, maintaining alignment on priorities and objectives, identifying knowledge gaps to suggest training opportunities to their direct manager, and providing general support to help them succeed in their role. oAssist the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis direct manager in performance management activities by providing feedback and input on individual team member performance, strengths and weaknesses. oAssist in skill development and knowledge sharing, offering mentorship and coaching to help the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis enhance their capabilities and contribute effectively. oFoster a positive team culture that embodies Convergent’s values. oAct as a trusted resource and advocate for the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis, ensuring that concerns, challenges, and process improvements are communicated and/or approved by their direct manager. oAssist the CFO with hiring and onboarding efforts by providing input on team needs, participating in interviews when appropriate, and helping integrate new hires into team processes. Requirements Required Qualifications oBachelor’s degree (Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Engineering, or related field). oStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish credibility with investors, lenders, insurers, brokers, and underwriters. oDemonstrated experience providing mentorship or professional guidance. oEnglish language proficiency. oAlignment with Convergent’s mission and values, and a strong interest in the Clean Energy Transition. o5% travel expected, primarily for team or company-wide meetings; occasional travel to remote project sites may be required and may involve driving or air travel. Preferred Qualifications o5–10 years of experience in insurance and/or risk management. oProfessional certifications such as ARM, CPCU, CRM, or RIMS-CRMP. oExperience with insurance tracking, risk management, or financial platforms. oFamiliarity with distributed energy or infrastructure projects. oKnowledge of battery storage technologies and associated risks, including fire risk, safety standards, and best operational practices.
