Job Description Summary: An Optometric Technician performs clinical, administrative, and customer service duties in order to help the Optometrist. An Optometric Technician is expected to possess strong organizational and communication skills and a strong attention to detail. Responsibilities: • Greet patients, clients, and visitors entering the clinic following all organizational customer service guidelines (refer to Customer Service Policy)., • Answer telephones (includes scheduling appointments) and provide information on Clinic operations following La Maestra’s established Phone Call Etiquette., • Perform administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments, managing inventory, and other tasks as needed., • Check in Patients (see PSR Procedures and Protocols)., • Obtain accurate changes in pertinent information such as address, phone, employment and insurance coverage and/or carrier., • Inform patients of costs of care being provided. Collect and post charges in NextGen according to protocols., • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain required authorizations and documents relating to all optometry visits., • Knowledgeable of third-party payer policies and procedures for services and materials, documentation requirements, and patient instruction procedures., • Scan the necessary scripts, emergency room forms, or other important documents within the medical chart for the provider to review during the examination., • Prepare patients for vision examinations, such as obtaining preliminary patient histories and performing preliminary tests., • Assist customers with frame selections. Adjust and repair frames., • Possess knowledge with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses. Educate patients on proper eye and contact lens care., • Complete all department daily logs at the end of each clinic day., • Account for all moneys collected, submit cash and record entry as directed., • Maintain knowledge and skills of front desk operations in order to assist as necessary with reception, medical records, scheduling, and billing functions., • Train new staff as needed. Job Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or GED Certification required: CPR Certificate Experience: 1 year of experience in private office or clinical setting. Working knowledge of optometric equipment and its uses, optometric and medical terminology, and the ability to work with delicate tools and materials. Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job: Bilingual (English/Arabic/& Chaldean preferably). Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate keyboarding skills. Technical knowledge and skills required to perform the job: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups. Demonstrate high levels of self-initiation and direction. Knowledge of communities we serve. Knowledge and experience working in medical settings and interacting collaboratively with medical teams. Skill in analyzing situations and making timely decisions. Experience with electronic health records.
