Job Summary Estimator (Entry-Level) The Estimator supports the preconstruction process by assisting with project document review, performing material and labor takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates and proposals for architectural sheet metal projects. This role works closely with internal teams, vendors, and general contractors to help ensure accurate scope definition, competitive pricing, and timely bid submissions. The position provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills in construction drawings, cost analysis, and estimating software while contributing to successful project delivery. Core Responsibilities: Project Intake & Evaluation: Review project documents. Verify plans, specs, addenda, RFIs, bulletins, and contracts are current. Identify full scope of work, exclusions, risk areas, and compliance requirements. Document Coordination & Preparation Collaborate with the Estimating Coordinator to ensure all documents are complete, accurate, and organized. Flag missing information or discrepancies for follow-up. Cost Estimating: Perform material and labor takeoffs using EDGE or company-approved software. Analyze fabrication, installation, logistics, schedule impacts, and O&P. Evaluate vendor quotes for compliance, accuracy, alternates, and value engineering options. Document assumptions, clarifications, and pricing rationale. Scope & Proposal Development Prepare and finalize scope letters and proposals according to schedule. Submit scope questions and clarifications to customers/GCs in a timely manner. Ensure proposals comply with company standards and CA construction law. Vendor Communication: Participate in scope clarification and price negotiations with vendors. Participate in bid leveling and scope discussions with GCs and internal teams. Maintain professional communication to build trust and confidence. Bid Timeline & Deliverables Adhere to bid deadlines and milestones, including internal review timelines. Review and finalize scope letters and proposals according to schedule. Handoff & Execution Support Participate in project handoff meetings with Operations to clarify scope, assumptions, and risks. Ensure all bid information is ready for seamless execution post-award. Risk Management & Compliance Ensuring proposals and scope letters comply with CA construction law, company protective clauses, and contractual obligations. Identify potential risks and communicate them to leadership and Ops. Recommend adjustments or clarifications to mitigate exposure. Continuous Improvement Review post-bid performance and lessons learned to refine estimating templates, workflows, and communication practices. Seeking opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and customer engagement. Technical Expertise: Ability to read and interpret construction plans, details, and specifications. Software Proficiency: Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, PlanGrid, Procore/Smart Bid, EDGE. Willingness to learn additional tools. Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, and decision-making skills. Communication & Collaboration: Clear, professional communication with internal teams, and vendors; effective team player. Attention to Detail & Organization: High accuracy in takeoffs, cost estimates, and proposal documentation. Performance Expectations Accuracy And Completeness: Estimates, Takeoffs and Scope Letters Timely Adherence: Bid Schedule and Deadlines Clear Documentation Liberties in interpreting the plans (best practice assumptions made), Clarifications, and Risks Contribution To Continuous Improvement Process Refinement Qualifications Experience • 12 years of construction industry experience in roles such as Project Manager, Superintendent, or similar field/operations positions preferred., • Candidates with 23 years of experience in related roles such as Drafter, Detailer, or Project Engineer are also encouraged to apply., • Experience using Bluebeam for reviewing drawings and documents is preferred. Education • High school diploma or equivalent required., • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Technology Environmental and physical requirements Physical Conditions • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer., • Occasional standing, walking, or lifting up to 20 lbs (e.g., office supplies)., • Manual dexterity for keyboard and office equipment use. Environmental Conditions • Work performed in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels., • Exposure to artificial lighting and climate-controlled settings., • Occasional interruptions and interaction with multiple team members., • Minimal exposure to outdoor elements (if applicable for site visits). FOUR CS COMMUNICATION Successful construction project execution takes more than just labor and materials. It requires effective communication of accurate and timely information to deliver outstanding results. Estimators help push architectural sheet metal industry standards through innovative and efficient solutions. Project information must be accessible to the entire team, online or offline, from pre-construction through project close-out and at every milestone. Estimators consistently utilize sophisticated technological approaches and excellent service to deliver quality, schedule, and cost certainty.
