Job Description The Opportunity As an Automation Engineer, you will design, deploy, and sustain automated assembly and test solutions for high-volume, high-mix electrical connector manufacturing. This is a hands-on role with end-to-end ownership — from concept through production ramp — where your work directly impacts safety, quality, throughput, and cost. You’ll partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, Supply Chain, and Global Engineering teams to continuously improve production performance. What You’ll Do Automation & Equipment Development • Own automation projects from concept to production ramp: URS, vendor selection, RFQs, design reviews, FAT/SAT, installation, validation, and handover., • Design and integrate PLC/HMI, motion, robotics/cobots, and machine vision systems., • Automate processes including:, • Terminal/pin forming & insertion, • Crimping, press-fit, heat staking, • Ultrasonic & laser welding, • Adhesive dispensing & potting, • Screwdriving, soldering, laser marking, • 100% in-line inspection & testing, • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, motion systems, and safety PLCs., • Deploy robotics and vision systems for guidance, alignment, and inspection., • Integrate equipment with MES/SCADA systems for traceability, OEE, and real-time analytics., • Lead PFMEA, Control Plans, IQ/OQ/PQ, PPAP/FAIR as required., • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, machine safety, ESD, and LOTO standards., • Troubleshoot chronic downtime and drive root cause & corrective actions., • Improve MTTR/MTBF, cycle time, uptime, and overall equipment efficiency., • Lead Kaizen, SMED, Standard Work, and 5S initiatives., • Create SOPs, schematics, PLC/HMI backups, BOMs; train technicians and operators., • Support spares strategy and CMMS with Maintenance., • Identify opportunities to enhance performance using advanced programming, analytics, or machine learning concepts. What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications • BS in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)., • 3+ years of automation experience in precision or small-part assembly (connector experience strongly preferred)., • Hands-on experience with PLC/HMI programming, servo/motion tuning, and electrical troubleshooting., • Experience with robotics, machine vision, pneumatics, tooling, and fixtures., • Strong background in PFMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA/GR&R, and structured problem solving (8D/A3)., • Ability to read and create electrical and mechanical drawings (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, CAD familiarity). Nice to Have • Experience with connector processes: crimping, pin insertion, over-/insert-molding, welding, potting, continuity/hipot testing., • Exposure to IATF 16949 (automotive), AS9100, or ISO 13485 environments., • Knowledge of NFPA 79, UL 508A, CE marking, and machine risk assessments., • IIoT / data skills: OPC UA, SQL, Ignition, FactoryTalk, basic Python or Structured Text., • Six Sigma, PMP, or capital project experience ($100K–$2M+).
