Job DescriptionDescription: POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Camp Director, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for the safety of campers, and assist in implementing high quality camp programming. As a member of the Camp staff, the Program Coordinator shall design and implement activities tailored to the skills and interests of each age group. Daily work will consist of working with other counselors to bring about quality programming in a variety of program areas. Activities should nurture creativity, cooperation, skill and selfesteem. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Ensure, above all else, campers are safe and well supervised., 2. Plan, setup and deliver a variety of program activities, theme days, and family nights, in conjunction with the Specialists and Counselors that keep children’s interests high; assist in family nights and special events as needed., 3. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY Learning Gardens brings year-round, field and school-based garden science learning to NYC school children and community members. Our gardens are outdoor classrooms that provide vibrant green space in some of New York City’s most densely populated neighborhoods. We operate three gardens in three boroughs. Using our four community gardens, CPF presents engaging interdisciplinary lessons to expand student learning around urban ecology, horticulture, soil science, and sustainable urban food systems. Students in 2nd – 8th grade and their teachers receive resource materials, curricula, and tools to enhance their understanding of ecosystem services and address the unique challenges of growing food in an urban environment. High School interns are trained in garden instruction and horticultural techniques throughout the spring and then work alongside Learning Gardens staff throughout the summer. The Seasonal Garden Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day field operations in our main Learning Gardens located in Brownsville, South Jamaica, and the South Bronx. This includes garden maintenance, repairs, coordinating volunteer events, and assisting the community gardener program. The ideal candidate will be an excellent time manager, able to multitask, very well-organized, and an effective communicator. This is a seasonal, 8-month position reporting to the Director of Education and assisting the school day and internship program managers. Schwarzman Building, • Draft a framework and process for evaluative feedback for school programs, • Contribute to initiatives and campaigns for Center for Educators & Schools, • Lead the development and launch of a new program, including lesson plans and promotional materials6 months and beyond, this person will:, • Maintain strong and supportive coaching relationships with Exhibitions Educators, • Assess existing school programs and propose strategies for growth and alignment with best practices, • Provide observation and performance feedback for Exhibitions EducatorsResponsibilities, • Design, develop, and launch new K-12 school programs, including researching collections, drafting lesson plans, and creating promotional marketing copy, • Meet with research colleagues and research with collections to draft new lesson plans, • Facilitating school field trip programs 2-4 times a week, • Assess school programs across museums and libraries to understand local, national, and international trends and propose strategies and programs aligned with best practices in the field, • Conduct ongoing training, coaching, observation, and performance feedback for Exhibitions Educators to ensure program quality and adherence to best practices, • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Research, Exhibitions, Visitor Experience, and Branch Programs and Services, • Adhere to the Center’s intellectual integrity, utilizing best practices for teaching with primary sources and exhibitions, and ensuring historical accuracy and cultural competence in all programs developed and facilitated, • Support the Center’s campaign and initiative work, including outreach efforts representing the Library at external events, such as tabling, • Master's Degree in Education, Museum Education or Studies, History, or a related field requiredRequired Experience, • 3+ years of experience teaching with primary sources, artifacts, archival collections, and/or exhibitions in schools, museums or libraries working with K-12 students, • 2+ years of experience writing K-12 lesson plans and training staff or educators how to teach with objects or primary sourcesRequired Skills, • Best practice knowledge of teaching with primary sources, artifacts and research collections in an informal learning environment, • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, for varied audiences, including public speaking, facilitating group discussion, classroom management, listening skills, and professional correspondence, • Strong project management skills including documentation and creating templates, organizational and time management, with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects at varied stages simultaneously, • Adaptability to change and improvise plans, including priorities, needs, or scope of projects, • Knowledge and understanding of NYC public schools, classroom teacher needs and expectations, and culturally responsive teachingManagerial/Supervisory Responsibilities, • Observing, coaching, and providing feedback teaching practices for the Exhibitions Education team, including 3 part time Exhibitions Educators and 1 full time Coordinator, • Be Helpful to patrons and colleagues, • Be Resourceful in solving problems, • Be Curious in all aspects of your work, • Be Welcoming and InclusiveWork Environment, • Exhibition/gallery setting, • Office setting, • Public library setting, • Workshop/classroom setting, • TelecommutingPhysical Duties, • Limited physical effort is required, • Light lifting/moving supply boxes, carts, or program supplies up to 10lbs may be required, • Requires travel within NYCPre-Placement Physical Required?, • NoUnion/Non Union, • Non-UnionFLSA Status, • ExemptSchedule, • 35 hrs per week; Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM, • Hybrid schedule with 4 days a week in the office, • Occasional evenings and weekends are required, with hours interchangeable if neededThis job description represents the types and levels of responsibilities that will be required of the position and shall not be construed as a declaration of all of the specific duties and responsibilities for the role.
