Job Description The Senior/Lead Jet Engine Mechanic with Avionics Experience is a highly skilled technical expert responsible for the timely and precise inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of complex jet engine systems and integrated avionics components, often at remote locations. This individual acts as a lead technician during critical, time-sensitive AOG recovery operations, ensuring airworthiness and minimal operational disruption in a high-pressure, fast-paced setting. Key Responsibilities AOG and Field Maintenance • Lead AOG Recovery: Immediately deploy to domestic and international locations to lead and execute complex, time-critical maintenance, repairs, and inspections for grounded aircraft., • High-Volume AOG Management: Manage multiple concurrent AOG events or complex repairs, prioritizing tasks and mobilizing resources to ensure rapid return-to-service (RTS)., • Advanced Troubleshooting: Expertly diagnose and rectify complex mechanical and electrical/avionics discrepancies in jet engines and associated systems (e.g., FADEC, Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting Systems, thrust reversers, engine harnesses)., • Engine Work: Perform major and minor engine repairs, component replacements (e.g., line replaceable units), borescope inspections, engine removal/installation, and full power plant rigging., • Test and Run-Up: Execute and certify engine functional checks, trim runs, and high-power engine run-ups. Avionics and Electrical Systems • Integrated Systems Repair: Troubleshoot, repair, and test the interface and operational integrity of avionics systems as they relate to engine control and performance (e.g., power distribution, sensor inputs, control systems)., • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all maintenance is performed in strict accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations (e.g., FARs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), and manufacturer’s maintenance manuals (MMs)., • Maintenance Records: Complete and certify accurate, detailed, and timely maintenance records, logbook entries, and work order documentation for all repairs and inspections., • Quality Assurance: Perform and certify Required Inspection Items (RII) as authorized by company procedures, ensuring the highest standards of safety and airworthiness. Leadership and Mentorship • Team Leadership: Direct and oversee the work of junior mechanics and contract personnel during AOG events, providing on-the-job training (OJT) and technical guidance., • Certification: Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate is required., • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in jet aircraft and engine maintenance., • Specialized Experience: Extensive experience with turbine engine maintenance (e.g., CFM, GE, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce) and avionics troubleshooting/repair., • AOG/Line Experience: Proven track record in a high-volume, dynamic AOG or line maintenance environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure., • Technical Proficiency: Expert ability to read, interpret, and apply complex technical data, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and digital manuals (e.g., maintenance tracking software)., • Soft Skills:, • Exceptional Troubleshooting: Superior diagnostic and problem-solving skills for complex, intermittent faults., • Decision Making: Ability to make sound, high-stakes decisions quickly in a crisis or remote environment., • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with the Maintenance Control Center, pilots, and customers., • Ability to work in all weather conditions and environments, often outdoors on airport ramps., • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy aircraft parts and equipment (up to 70 lbs)., • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
