Job Description Job Title: Forklift Operator Job Description This permanent forklift operator position supports a small warehouse crew for a major distributor of car wash equipment and components. You will spend part of your shift operating a sit-down forklift to move materials and the rest of the time selecting and building customer orders. This role offers long-term employment in a clean, organized warehouse environment where accuracy, safety, and teamwork are essential. Responsibilities • Operate a sit-down forklift safely to move materials and stock within the warehouse for approximately 40% of the shift., • Use an iPad and scanner to locate aisles, bays, and products and accurately pick items according to customer orders., • Select stock to fill customer orders while following written order requirements and shelf locations in an alphabetically organized warehouse., • Build and prepare pallets for shipping, including using an automated wrap machine to secure orders for delivery., • Stage completed and wrapped orders in the designated area for outbound shipment., • Maintain order accuracy while consistently meeting productivity goals and deadlines., • Handle material using pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment as needed., • Perform general warehouse tasks such as lifting, packing, shipping preparation, and order building., • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and ensure efficient warehouse operations., • Perform additional job duties as required to support overall warehouse and shipping activities. Essential Skills • Minimum 6 months of sit-down forklift experience or previous forklift certification., • Experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or material handling environment., • Proficiency with order picking and order pulling using handheld devices such as an iPad and RF scanner., • Ability to consistently lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift., • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods of time., • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite., • High school diploma or GED., • Willingness to complete a pre-employment drug screening., • Willingness to submit a pre-employment background check., • Ability to follow written instructions, read order requirements, and interpret shelf locations accurately., • Commitment to working safely while operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience as a warehouse material handler, order picker, order builder, or general laborer in a distribution or warehouse environment., • Hands-on experience with pallet jacks and other material handling equipment., • Familiarity with RF scanners and digital picking systems for order selection., • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail., • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to coordinate tasks with a small crew and supervisors., • Flexibility to work overtime as needed, typically 5–10 hours per week. Work Environment This role is based in a modern, new warehouse facility dedicated to distributing car wash equipment, service parts, and cleaning solutions. The warehouse is clean, well organized, and arranged alphabetically to support efficient picking. The environment is not temperature controlled, so it can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and candidates should be comfortable working in these conditions. You will work a five-day schedule, Monday through Friday, on first shift from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of an earlier 6:30 a.m. start as needed. Expect 5–10 hours of overtime per week. You will use a sit-down forklift, pallet jacks, an iPad, RF scanners, and an automated wrap machine as part of your daily tasks. The team is small, and you will report into a single supervisor, fostering close communication and collaboration throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
