Job DescriptionJob Title: Pump Technician Job Description The Pump Technician will service, repair, and install a wide range of industrial pumps in both a busy shop environment and in the field. This role focuses on overhauls, repairs, and installations of vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, and BB5 pumps, working closely with a Pump Mechanic Supervisor. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, precise use of measuring tools, and the ability to read blueprints and schematics while supporting high-quality, reliable pump performance for customers. Responsibilities • Perform service, repair, and overhaul of vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, and BB5 pumps and other pump types as needed., • Assist the Pump Mechanic Supervisor with pump overhauls and repairs in the shop, including disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly., • Conduct field work 25%–50% of the time to perform pump repairs, swaps, and installations at customer sites such as ports, barges, and refineries., • Use measuring instruments, including tape measures, calipers, and OD and ID micrometers, to verify dimensions, tolerances, and component fit., • Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to perform accurate repairs and assemblies., • Perform mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, and adjustments on pumps, motors, drives, and related components., • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for repair, assembly, and general mechanical tasks., • Support general mechanical and shop duties such as cleaning components, organizing parts, and assisting with staging and setup for jobs., • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes and lubrication on pumps and related equipment., • Assist with laser alignment of pumps and motors to ensure proper operation and extended equipment life, when required., • Apply SDS (Safety Data Sheet) knowledge to handle oils, chemicals, and materials safely in both shop and field environments., • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend repair solutions., • Maintain and care for personal tools and company-provided equipment, ensuring they remain in safe working condition., • Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE while working in the shop and in the field., • Document work performed as required, including repairs completed, parts used, and observations related to equipment condition.Essential Skills, • 3+ years of experience as a pump mechanic or pump technician in an industrial environment., • Strong hands-on experience working with vertical turbine pumps., • Proven ability to service and repair vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, and BB5 pumps or similar equipment., • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with mechanical troubleshooting and assembly., • Proficiency using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and OD and ID micrometers., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings., • Experience using common hand tools and basic mechanical tools for repair and assembly work., • Valid TWIC card to access required field locations such as ports and other secure facilities., • Capability to work in both shop and field environments, including on ports, barges, and in refineries., • Willingness and ability to travel to the field 25%–50% of the time for installations, swaps, and repairs., • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for long periods and handling tools and components.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous field service experience working on pumps or related rotating equipment., • Laser alignment experience with pumps and motors., • Knowledge of SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and safe handling of oils, chemicals, and related materials., • Familiarity with motors, drives, and VFDs and their interaction with pump systems., • Leadership experience or the ability to take initiative and support less experienced team members when needed., • Interest in building a long-term career and growing with the company over time., • Ownership of a basic set of personal tools suitable for pump repair and mechanical work., • Experience with general labor and mechanical tasks such as oil changes, mechanical assembly, and troubleshooting.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a small but very busy shop environment where parts and pumps are frequently in process due to high demand. The current shop is tight on space and does not have air conditioning, with plans to move into a larger facility in 2027. The day shift team includes one manual machinist and two pump mechanics, creating a close-knit, hands-on work atmosphere. Standard hours are approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an average of 40–50 hours per week and the potential for more overtime as additional contracts are secured. Between 25% and 50% of the work is performed in the field at ports, on barges, and in refineries, where technicians carry out installations, swaps, and repairs. The position requires appropriate work attire and PPE, including steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, to ensure safety and compliance in both shop and field settings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Channelview, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
