What You Will Be Doing The Door Technician supports a mission‑critical, 24/7 airport environment by maintaining, repairing, and adjusting commercial door systems and associated hardware across terminals, concourses, tunnels, and operational support spaces. This role ensures safe, functional, and code‑compliant operation of mechanical door components and non‑security electrical devices essential for passenger flow, staff access, life safety, and ADA compliance. The technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance, conducts inspections, replaces hardware, and documents all work through the CMMS. By sustaining reliable door system performance, this position helps maintain uninterrupted airport operations and a safe environment for all occupants. Door Technician Duties & Responsibilities • Inspect, maintain, and repair door hardware including hinges, frames, closers, panic bars, push bars, strikes, thresholds, and weather stripping., • Adjust and maintain automatic door operators and push-button activation devices., • Repair and align doors to ensure proper closing, latching, and safety compliance., • Perform minor electrical troubleshooting related to door operators and push-button devices (non-security systems only)., • Replace worn hardware components and coordinate frame or structural repairs as needed., • Maintain door system compliance with life-safety and to egress requirements., • Respond to reactive maintenance calls impacting passenger flow or security operations., • Maintain accurate CMMS documentation (Hexagon) including parts usage and work order completion., • Coordinate with DOA / Access Control and MC Dean when issues involve card readers, security wiring, or access control components., • Complete assigned PMs and work orders on time and with high quality (per SLA targets)., • Maintain door uptime in passenger-facing and operational areas by reducing failures., • Ensure doors meet life-safety / egress performance (proper closing, latching, and panic hardware function)., • Maintain ADA-related door functionality and report compliance concerns promptly., • Keep CMMS (Hexagon) documentation accurate: problem description, corrective action, parts used, and closeout notes., • 5+ years of commercial door and architectural hardware experience in a high-traffic facility (airport, hospital, university, transportation hub, or large campus preferred)., • Demonstrated experience with:, • Panic hardware / push bars (Von Duprin, Detex, etc.), • Door closers and hydraulic operators, • Continuous hinges and heavy-duty hinges, • Frames, thresholds, sweeps, and weather strips, • Automatic door operators and push-button activation devices, • Door alignment, shimming, and mechanical adjustments., • Working knowledge of life-safety and safety compliance, including:, • NFPA 101 Life Safety Code (egress requirements), • ADA door hardware requirements, • Proper latch, closing, and panic hardware operation standards., • Experience performing minor electrical troubleshooting related to door operators and push-button devices., • Ability to diagnose root causes door failures in high-cycle, high-traffic environments., • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read basic wiring diagrams and manufacturer installation instructions., • Experience coordinating with security/access control teams when door hardware interfaces with card readers or secured areas (while not performing access control work directly)., • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in active passenger environments., • Experience using a CMMS platform (Hexagon preferred) for documentation and work order tracking., • Ability to obtain airport badging and pass background screening. This role operates across terminal areas, mechanical rooms, and utility spaces. Work may involve lifting, climbing, confined space awareness, and exposure to heat, cold, and noise. All activities must comply with OSHA regulations, plumbing codes, airport requirements, and site safety policies.
