Job Description Assistant Nurse Manager – Critical Care Job Type: Full-Time | Nights Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM Salary Range: $129,000 – $168,000 Position Summary The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) partners with the Nurse Manager to ensure high-quality, safe, and evidence-based nursing care within the assigned Critical Care unit. This leader supports daily operations, staff development, performance improvement initiatives, and fiscal responsibility while promoting a collaborative, patient-centered culture. The ANM serves as a role model, coach, mentor, and clinical resource for staff. Key Responsibilities • Ensure delivery of quality clinical services in compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards, • Maintain 24-hour accountability for nursing care on the unit, • Support operational management including staffing, scheduling, FTE tracking, and budget oversight, • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal, age-appropriate patient care, • Provide house supervision as required, • Participate in the development and implementation of evidence-based standards of care, policies, and procedures, • Ensure employee compliance with organizational and HR policies, • Oversee staff orientation, competency validation, and ongoing education, • Promote a safe environment for patients and employees, • Participate in performance improvement initiatives tied to quality, safety, and patient satisfaction metrics, • Foster positive employee relations and uphold customer service behavioral standards, • Serve as a positive change agent supporting organizational initiatives, • Periodically provide direct patient care as needed Leadership & Administrative Duties • Interview, hire, evaluate, counsel, and terminate staff in accordance with policy, • Develop and submit departmental goals aligned with organizational and nursing strategic plans, • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets; report variances, • Conduct monthly staff meetings and maintain documentation, • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, • Utilize multiple communication methods to disseminate information, • Participate in committees, task forces, and special projects, • Promote shared governance and professional practice Professional Practice Standards • Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals, • Delegate according to the NYS Nurse Practice Act, • Uphold the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics, • Integrate patient rights and nursing ethics into daily practice, • Support Magnet-aligned initiatives and nursing excellence Education & Experience Requirements • Current New York State RN License, • BSN required (or actively matriculated with defined graduation plan), • BLS (AHA) required, • ACLS preferred (or required based on department standards), • Specialty certification or CNML preferred (to be obtained within 3 years), • Minimum 2 years of relevant acute care experience, • Previous leadership or management experience preferred, • Demonstrated clinical excellence, • Strong verbal and written communication skills, • Ability to function as a staff RN when needed
