Job Description This position is located in a correctional facility. Job Title: Maintenance Technician I Department: Maintenance - Corrections Reports To: Chief Maintenance Engineer Classification: Non-Exempt Position Summary The Maintenance Technician performs technical and mechanical functions as assigned for the purpose of operating the property in a manner consistent with maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and service to the client and its occupants. This individual will maintain a high level of professionalism in addressing facility management issues, including responding to and resolving any client requests or concerns. Essential Functions: • Electrical: Maintain lighting fixtures and ballasts, • Electrical: Repair, replace, and/or maintain 115V convenience outlets, • Electrical: Assist in more complex repairs and additions to electrical systems, • Electronic systems (Fire alarm, security, timers): Ability to operate and perform tests, • Plumbing: Repair flush valve on toilets and keep properly maintained, • Plumbing: Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on all plumbing issues throughout the facility, including roof drains, storm drains, faucets, valves, and water filters, • Plumbing: Clear drainage/sewage stoppages using appropriate equipment and methods, • Carpentry: Repair and assemble furniture, • HVAC: Change Ventilation Filters, • HVAC: Perform lubrication of motors/pumps/fans, • HVAC: Assist in the repair of HVAC system equipment, • HVAC: Perform cleaning of refrigeration equipment coils, • General: Maintain and clean mechanical rooms and equipment to maintain in like new condition, • General: Complete corrective/preventative maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner, • General: Perform painting as needed/assigned, • General: Perform cleaning/janitorial functions or supervise, • General: Perform event setups and take-downs, • General: Assist in installing new equipment for the facility, • General: Respond to On-Call emergency repair work or after-hours, • General: Maintain clean and organized work areas, • General: Maintain supply and materials in stock, organize and replenish, • General: Maintain and clean mechanical rooms and equipment, • General: Assist other trades/technicians where assigned and/or needed, • Attend and actively participate in staff/safety meetings, • Maintain all logs per ACA requirements as applicable, • Open, document action taken and close on demand and preventative maintenance work requests using a PC and PDA, • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, • Experience in leading the project management process, • Understand and abide by all applicable Safety Data Sheets (SDS) procedures, • Understand and abide by all Lock Out Tag Out procedures Required • High School Diploma or equivalent., • 1-3 years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of a commercial building, educational environment, correctional facility or health care facility preferred., • This position will be required to perform at a semi-skilled level for at least one of the following: Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry, and Painting, with the ability to learn and become skilled or semi-skilled at the others., • Fluent in English language to speak, read and write clearly This is a full-time, non-exempt position with normal working hours Monday through Friday, working 40 hours per week. However, as business needs become necessary, after-hours, holidays, or weekends may be required. Travel No travel is required for this position. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory duties for this position. Work Environment This position is located within a correctional facility. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions. Must be able to work in hazardous conditions while maintaining safety standards, work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, industrial settings, and construction sites, and work in loud environments and temperature extremes. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Essential functions of this position require: manual dexterity, large motor skills, ability to communicate, lifting, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, climbing (including but not limited to ladders), crawling, stooping, turning/twisting, balancing, reaching with varying frequencies. Heavy work: Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds, Frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10-20 pounds. Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important. The employee is regularly required to talk or listen effectively.
